iOS 5.1 beta fixes iPhone 4S battery vampire

The battery vampire plaguing certain iPhone 4S users will be staked by iOS5.1, the version just released to Apple developers as a beta. iOS 5.1 will run on iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, the iPads and the most recent iPod Touches.

Known as “Batterygate”, iPhone 4S users complained about the intense levels of power drain which their phones experienced. Fingers were pointed at Siri, the personal voice assistant for the iPhone 4S, as well as the inability for the A5 CPU and the various phone systems to play nice.

The iPhone 4S battery draining issue is not the only bug being quashed, iOS 5.1 brings with it a laundry list of changes and fixes, with important ones highlighted below:

  • Users can now enter any Apple ID to sign up for an iCloud account. Previously, users had to create a new MobileMe account.
  • Images can now be removed manually from the Photo Stream in iCloud. Any photos deleted are now also removed from other iOS devices connected to iCloud.
  • Shake-to-shuffle caused the Music app to freeze, this will be fixed.
  • The Setup Assistant caused an “infinite setup loop” for some users. When the setup was completed, the iPhone would jump back to a “thank you” screen ad infinitum. Users had to reboot the device to restore functionality.
  • SpringBoard, the home screen app for the iPhone would sometimes fall into a state when double-clicking the home button would not display the camera icon. This too will be fixed.
  • For those lucky enough to own a developer account, the iOS 5.1 Beta 2 IPSW can be downloaded here.

Not just iPhone 4S… my iPhone 4 plummets in battery since IOS5. I wish I could roll it back.

You can fix this by restoring your device with iTunes and by that getting the latest software version 5.01 (9A406) on to your iphone. I am sure you still have 5.01 (9A405) installed. Since I updated to (9A406) my battery life is very good now. – But a normal update won’t do! I has to be a restore. Make a backup before and play that back afterwards.

      All the best!

I am confused–I have the iPhone 4S and I just checked to see if there was a battery update–because what I have currently with iOs 5.0.1 sucks.  It’s worst than my Android and Blackberry.  So is the writer talking about 5.0.1 (and ref it as 5.1) or is there another one after this?  My phone should have came with the latest update, as reflected on my iTunes software update.

    • Kurzma

It is in fact a little confusing; a normal update doesn’t load the (9A406) version of 5.01. Since you have a 4S like me, you can fix most of your problems with that update. But it only gets loaded when you RESTORE your device. If you just look for an unpdate, it says you don’t need to update. Look at the info of your iPhone if you still have version (9A405). If you do, you should restore your device and go to (9A406). Both are 5.01, but different versions of it. My battery last easily for two days now with all usual functions turned on.

I still have an iPhone 3G. I guess I can wait until they get this battery-thing straightened-out before I get into anything above the free iPhone 3s. Honestly, I’ve had this iPhone 3G since early-spring 2009. When Apple introduced the 3GS, I had not even had the 3G for 2-weeks. I was pleased when AT&T gave me a $99.00 rebate.

My-Trusty-old-3G works so well, considering how much I use it, I am on original battery. Use WiFI at home and wherever-else it’s available. In the worse-case scenario; like Google maps or earth. I can still my 3G good couple to 3.5 hours. WiFi phone-calls and other less-demanding-tasks…6 hours easy. One thing I did from the start was to outfit my l did was buy the Battery Doctor right of f What’s this hearing about hydrogen- batteries? Just what I need; A Hindenburg in my front pocket!!! };~

Because in THE ios5 update iPhone 4 works on a bit higher speed. If you want à 4.x.x version, just Google on downgrade iphone

A bit higher speed? My battery is in freefall. Even when in airplane mode.
I believe downgrading is not possible.

      Anyway

While I am on OS4 and OS5 is still in beta, I would like to put a feature request lol
Get us some swipe typing like “droid does”.

Take it from droid, give em something in return = play nice. Ever tried that Apple? How about barter instead of suing? you give me, I give you. Even 3 year old kids are better at it, than these companies are.

      FYI stop bragging Apple.
