Nest thermostat available in Apple stores now

Oh boy, you know you’ve been waiting for this one. The Nest smart thermostat is now available for purchase in Apple stores.

The Cupertino-based tech giant will be flogging the ‘learning’ thermostat for US$249.95, the same price at which it’s available on the Nest website.

For those of you who live in countries without central heating, they’re the things that control the temperature in your house. Thing is, Nest’s product isn’t just any thermostat, it’s a smart one.

Actually, it is pretty intelligent. Having your house at just the right temperature for you is great, but when you’re out it wastes a hell of a lot of energy. The Nest Learning Thermostat claims to solve this problem by “programming itself, turning itself down when you’re away, and keeping track of your energy use”.

You can also control it using your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac — Windows and Android users be damned.

That Apple love isn’t accidental. As Mashable notes Nest Lab co-founder Tony Fadell oversaw 18 generations of iPods.

Nest is the first home gadget stocked by Apple. Unlike most other Apple products, it also has the redeeming feature of you being unable to show it off in public.
