24 January 2004 … I went into labour at home which progressed quickly.  Almost at the hospital I asked hubby if he’d brought the camera – he’d forgotten!  I made him turn the car around and go back home for the camera. We only JUST made it to the hospital in time.  Needless to say, hubby was a complete wreck! :) :) :)

Being the young and very disorganized varsity student I was,
I forgot to set my alarm the night before and as Murphy’s Law goes, I had a
very important paper to write the next day.

I woke up in a tiz, and since it was a chilly day, I threw
on my lucky dress, put on a pair of stockings and drove through a few red
lights to get to campus on time.

As I reached the venue, I knew I had missed the 30min late
grace period by all of 8 minutes and was prepared to start crying my eyes out in
the hopes I would be allowed to write the test.

I could hear chuckles behind me, and at the time I remember
thinking that was really rude. As I got to the examiner, she was smiling
broadly, and without questioning me she handed me a paper and motioned to an
empty desk at the back of the room.

As I walked there, the chuckles got louder, and it was only
after I sat down, that the person next to me was kind enough to tell me that
the back of my dress was tucked into my stockings.

I guess the examiner thought it exposing my laundry day
knickers to an entire exam venue was punishment enough for being late… so much
    for my lucky dress.

Since father’s day is coming up, I’d like
to win this for my pops. My dad has the habit of forgetting things when he’s in
a rush. He used to be part of a lift club for my sister and her high school
friends. One day, they were running late. So my dad pulled up to the school
gate, and as the last passenger had got out the car, he went speeding off to
work. One problem though, all their schoolbags were in the boot. My sister and
her friends didn’t have cell phones, so they had to run into the school office
to get the receptionist to call him and ask that he turn around.

He came back 15 minutes later, was very
late for work that day, and my sister, being an awkward high school student, didn’t
speak to him for a week.

So on our wedding day, after the reception I went off to refresh hair and make up and my Dad told my Hubby that he’d make sure I get to the reception because hubby should know I’m going to take a while.
So my Dad tells new hubby to go wait for me at the Hall (being the place the reception will be at) Call it wedding day jitters (I don’t know) he heard go wait at the Mall.
So hubby and best men go off to mugg n bean to have a cup of coffee!! I waited in the hot sun at our garden outdoor reception for ONE hour for Hubby that day! With everyone thinking he had run off! His Mom even came to tell me not to worry, it can’t be cold feet as the ceremony itself was already done!!

These days whenever anyone in the family gets married, all the grooms are told to steer clear of hubby cos he WILL make them late!

Allow me to set the scene. It was a chilly Monday morning and I’d not gotten very much sleep the night before, so I was quite tired. Having a 9:00 class meant that in my sleep deprived state, I would have to drag myself out of bed and get to campus. Having made the arduous journey to campus, I walked into the lecture hall, only to find it empty! My watch had somehow been set an hour ahead and I was thus an hour early! Cursing Murphy and his laws, I retired to my car for a nap and ended up being late for the actual class!

I went to open the garage door I walked into a spider web on the way out the door and couldn’t find the spider, so I had to go inside and shower again.

I once was called for a job interview at a shopping mall quite a distance from my home. To kill two birds with one stone, I decided to meet a few old school buddies, who I knew moved to that area, for lunch. Lunch was great and we enjoyed seafood at a renowned prawn joint. Time passed and when I looked down at my watch- it was time for the interview. So I paid my share of the bill and ran off early. The receptionist, at the travel agency I was interested in working for, asked me to have a seat as the interviewer was running a little late. So I sat down and grabbed a magazine (which, like all magazines in waiting rooms- were from the 1980′s). I suddenly felt a nagging itch on my back. I ignored the itch and continued reading, but seconds later- the itch had spread, inflaming my entire back. I excused myself for the bathroom and saw that I had broke out in hives, and suddenly, it was getting difficult to breathe. I realised that I was having an allergic reaction to out seafood meal. I had a tested allergy for shellfish when I was a child, but had enjoyed eating prawns for many years without any complications: that was of course up until today. I asked the receptionist to contact my mother, who is a nurse, and I asked her to explain the situation as I found it difficult to talk because of my constricting larynx. She, picked up my phone in a panic, and dialled my mother. My mother told her to rush down to Clicks and ask for Allergex tablets and calamine lotion for the rash. The symptoms subsided about ten minutes after taking the tablets. During all the commotion, my interviewer had entered the building and had been waiting for me in her office. The receptionist explained the incident and the interviewer found the incident, quite hilarious. I joked about the fact that she had not swiped my Clicks clubcard during the dramatic incident. It had been an eventful day, and in spite of all the drama- I landed myself a new job :)

  • Anni (again)

I was running late for work one monday, and i was only 2 weeks into a new job. I got to work in a huff and lied that my lights were left on, and the car battery had run flat.

What do you know, that wednesday night i got my drink on, and actually did leave my lights on. On thursday morning i knew it was ‘the boy who cried wolf’ all over again

My solution: I called in sick

    excuses, excuses, excuses…

The first time I was ever late for high school,I decided to bunk to avid the embarrassment. Well the comedy of errors that ensued…Some lovely kind soul that was at school with me (still dont know who that rat was! lol) decided to report me to the principal. In turn my parents were called and asked if there were problems at home and what would make me bunk school…duh? By the time I got home from a leisurely stroll around zoo lake and visiting friends, my parents were both home EARLY waiting patiently with a studded belt! I was taught a lesson of note! Moral of the story…if you late for school just hold your head up high and sit you butt down!!!
