Behold, a fantastic behind the scenes look at Microsoft’s and 343′s upcoming shooter, Halo 4.

There’s plenty to say about Halo 4. Following directly on from Halo 3, Halo 4 shifts the focus to an elder alien race called the Promethean’s. The video’s pretty detailed and lifts the lid on a bunch of folk you’re going to blow the shit out of.

What we love though is how detailed the Halo lore is. In every Halo title there’s been an overflow of mystery surrounding the Promethean’s and the Forerunners, the creators of the Halo rings that continuously threaten to invert the universe through its asshole. The video goes into a fortune of detail surrounding these legendary “beyond human” aliens but still reels enough in to keep most of the mystery intact. And the design of the Forerunners is startling. Just to see the creative process that goes behind the creation of these characters would put Disney to shame.

Forerunners, manipulating game systems, emotionally colouring context, there’s enough buzzwords here to fill a wooden crate to the brim. But best of all, Halo 4 is looking utterly engrossing and graphically spectacular. Is this the last, best game for the Xbox 360?
