Here are your mobile gaming picks of the week

Welcome to a new feature here at Gearburn, where we pick some of the more notable mobile games to be released in recent days.

Say what you will about mobile gaming, but maybe some of these picks will change your mind.

Flipped Out: The Powerpuff Girls Match 3 Puzzle/Fighting Action Game

Yes, it’s another match-three puzzle game, but The Powerpuff Girls’ new mobile title has received plenty of love from critics and mobile gamers.

The new game manages to innovate by delivering a match-three game when in portrait mode and a beat ’em up game when in landscape mode. I’m not sure if any game has done this before.

Flipped Out is available on iOS only for R60, but an Android version is expected to launch on April 14.

DIRAC

A puzzle game from accomplished studio Mediocre (Smash Hit, Does Not Commute), DIRAC is effectively a join-the-dots game with a pleasant art direction.

The game sees you having to join the dots/particles that emanate from a large molecule in the centre. The kicker is that only particles of the same colour can be joined. There’s not much else to the game, as evident by reviews, but those looking for something different should consider it.

DIRAC is available for R31 on Android and R38 on iOS.

X-Tactics

Branded as a “GPS-based RPG”, X-Tactics is quite possibly the most innovative videogame to be released this week.

The title is a turn-based tactical RPG that uses real-world information for several features. So your local weather will be reflected during combat and you can tackle challenges in your vicinity.

X-Tactics is free to play on Android and iOS.

Lego Jurassic World

The latest game in the Lego series features all four Jurassic Park movies (Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World), and it’ll definitely be familiar to Lego fans.

Lego Jurassic World lets you play as the humans or one of 16 dinosaurs as you explore the islands of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. Being a Lego game, you can also make your own dinosaurs by collecting Lego amber. Neat.

Lego Jurassic World is available for R74 on Android and R99 on iOS.

Furdemption: A Quest for Wings

Paid title Furdemption has received quite a few positive reviews, but the iOS title has received its first price drop this week.

The title is a puzzler set in a hellish world, as you play a cute rabbit attempting to escape. Expect fiendish puzzles, loads of deaths and simple visuals.

Furdemption is free on iOS, but the developers have ruled out an Android version for now.
