Mark has been actively involved with the Internet since 1995 and more so with online gaming since 2000. He started and initially self funded SkillPod Media in March 2004 and is currently the CEO. To date SkillPod have built a proprietary online game management engine which currently powers a number of key publishers portals across the globe, including clients such as Media 24, RTL Group, KTV and Independent Newspapers to name but a few. The business started evolving into the mobile space in December 2007 and was part of the Adobe Distributable Flash Player launch. SkillPod is part of the Nokia Launchpad and has a number of game titles on offer in the Nokia Ovi store, with at least 10 new titles being added every month. More recently the business launched a mobile games portal, which is the brain child of Mark. To date the response has been overwhelming with a number of key international media businesses expressing interest in the offering. The business is a finalist in the current TT100 (Top Technology) awards, the winners will be announced on 28 April 2010. SkillPod have in excess of 450 game titles that they can fully customise and have translated many of these into Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Spanish and Afrikaans.
There's no shortage of hype about social gaming at the moment, resulting in substantial buyouts of social gaming startups by large media conglomerates. The statistics are pointing to massive growth numbers, specifically around micro-payments and around the vast numbers of users playing social games on a daily basis.
