  • Huawei Ascend W1 review: ready for a cheap Windows Phone 8 thrill?

After more leaks than a wicker canoe, the Huawei Ascend W1 was finally unveiled at CES 2013 as the Chinese firm’s first Windows Phone 8smartphone. Aimed at the bottom end of the market, the Ascend W1 doesn’t sport the premium polycarbonate unibody of the Nokia Lumia 920 or the sultry design of the HTC 8X, as it looks instead to rub shoulders with the Lumia 520 and various Android handsets such as the Ascend G330, Orange San Diego and ZTE Blade 3. With its rivals in mind you won’t be surprised when we tell you the Ascend W1 will set you back £119.99 on PAYG, or £13.50 per month on contract. O2 currently has...

  • Huawei Ascend P2 hands-on review: possibly the world’s fastest phone

Last year Huawei gave us the world’s slimmest and the world’s most powerful smartphones in the form of the Ascend P1 S and Ascend D Quad, and now the Huawei Ascend P2 has stolen the “world’s fastest smartphone” crown. In short, Huawei loves a good record breaker (which means it willabsolutely love TechRadar), probably due to the fact it generates additional hype around its smartphone launches. The Chinese firm is firmly setting its sights on the mid- and high-end of the mobile market as it tries to shake off the budget tag it’s developed for itself over recent years. It all started at CES 2013 when the Ascend...

  • Huawei to launch the 4.7-inch Ascend P2 [MWC]

Mobile World Congress 2013 is turning into a hotbed of geeky phone porn and one of the most lustful devices to emerge so far is Huawei’s Ascend P2, a 4.7-inch phablet (we’re sorry for using that terminology) with legs that stretch beyond the keen of mortals. What do we get with a 4.7-inch screen? Try a 1280×720 display with a screamer of a CPU, 1.5 GHz K3V2 quad-core processor, which Huawei assures us is the “fastest on the market”. There’s also a mind-blowing 13-megapixel camera, 1GB RAM, a 2420mAh battery and NFC, all packed into a 8.4mm thin frame. Jellybean Android...

  • Huawei Ascend D2, flagship Android ‘phablet’ set for CES 2013 unveiling

Huawei look set to enter the “phablet” fray, with the scheduled unveiling of the Android powered Ascend D2 at CES 2013. This is the second known device that the Chinese manufacturer will showcase, the other being the Ascend W1 which runs Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS. The news broke thanks to a message posted on the Senior VP of Huawei Technology’s Sino Weibo page, who sated his concern over the D2’s, yet to be disclosed, high price point. He attributed the sizable price tag to the quality of specs that the D2 sports. The specs for this “Dream Phone” include a...

  • Huawei Ascend P1 launches May in Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong

The Huawei Ascend P1 launches this May according to a press-release from China’s largest mobile phone maker. It’s a super-styling phone to boot. The Ascend P1 has a dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU, a 4.3-inch screen, an 8-megapixel camera and surprisingly, very decent sound with the Dolby Mobile 3.0 speaker system. The PR calls it a “home theatre experience in the palm of your hands”. We’d like to call it a breath of fresh air. The...
