  • The evolution of Far Cry: from the South Pacific to the Mesolithic

For many gamers, the Far Cry series was and is a pivotal title in their gaming careers – certainly it was for mine. It's not as if it was the only FPS I've ever played, however at the time it set itself apart with exceptional graphics, good level design and interesting locations that set it apart from its peers. 12 years down the line and 11 games in, Far Cry remains a series with a loyal following, as well as one which still holds appeal to new players. The question then is, how do the developers manage to keep this series...

  • Far Cry 4: 2014’s most entertaining PS4 game

Far Cry 4 on PS4 was the most fun game of 2014, no doubt there. I played a lot of crap over those dry twelve months of gaming. The Crew, WWE 15, Assassins Creed: Unity, Destiny, Call of Duty, Watch Dogs, The Evil Within and a hell of a lot more. These were average games at best that boasted new features, better graphics but little to speak of when it came to honest-to-goodness fun. And if it weren’t for the PSN outage at the end of 2014, I wouldn’t have played Far Cry 4 at all – so a rare...

  • Far Cry 4 review: discover your primal self

Welcome to the vast and unforgiving wilderness of Kyrat -- a fictional region in the Himalayas and the setting for Ubisoft’s latest title, Far Cry 4. Get ready to enter a full-fledged civil war in a land of myths and legends. In its lengthy 35-hours of gameplay, you will be introduced to a string of pleasingly unique personalities, from a Bible-crazed weapons-dealer to a peculiar pair of deceiving stoners. Boasting a more refined and improved Far Cry recipe, this title is assured to meet most (if not all) of your gaming needs. Story Time You play as Ajay Ghale, a Kyrati-born-American-raised young man,...

  • Valve’s Steam Summer Sale comes early, has added Adventure mode

Gamers upset that Valve hasn't actually officially launched its Steam Machine platform yet, can today take comfort in the company's massive annual Steam Summer Sale. Valve, through its Steam store, is offering discounts on "thousands" of gaming titles for the next ten days. Although the sale is earlier than last year's, the company will still be offering its customary daily deals, community choice sales and a sales-orientated meta-game, allowing members to win additional titles. This year, eight-hour flash sales also join the fold, because waiting sucks. Current daily deals on offer include the dark DayZ, cut by a measly 15% to US$25.49....

  • Ubisoft says Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4 planned for 2014

The exemplary performance of Far Cry 3 and Assassins Creed 3 have prompted Ubisoft to announce that both installments will be planned for 2014, according to Cinema Blend. These two core games for Ubisoft shipped a massive 12 million and 4.5 million copies respectively. This represents units shipped to retailers as well as copies sold digitally. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot related to investors that Far Cry 3 is "one of the major pillars of our offering for core gamers" and performed "way better than expected", so expect that Far Cry 4 is definitely in the making. As Guillemot went on...

  • Far Cry 3 review: a holiday from hell

Over the boom-boom of M.I.A.’s Paper Planes, Far Cry 3 opens in the cheesiest way possible. It begins with a group of Santa Monica rich kids exploring the coastline of a South Pacific island. They cheer the trust funds that brought them to Rook Island, then swim with its oceanic wildlife and skydive from a plane. Rook Island is vast and untamed – and seemingly deserted. Yet in a flash the camera pulls back to reveal the glinting eyes of a tattooed, devilish visage with a cellphone pressed to your face. “I like this phone,” says Vaas as he...

  • Far Cry 3 preview: the best deer-skinning game you’ll play all year

Here's the skinny. Far Cry 3 is going to be the shooter you'll play this year. We spent some time with it, and in a nutshell: you're going to want to buy this one. It's beyond gorgeous Watching a video doesn't do Far Cry 3 justice. Powered by the new CryEngine, Far Cry 3 bleeds graphical power. Blades of glass sway realistically in the wind, animations are realistic and textures sharp as all hell. Even the sky, the goddamn sky is a piece of art with realistically swelling clouds and gods own lens-flare. And it moves at a silky 60fps....
