  • iPhone 7 rumour roundup: new iPhone 6S images leak, suggest scant cosmetic tweaks

Feature image: Kārlis Dambrāns via Flickr iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, whatever. All we know is that an upgraded iPhone is coming later this year and there are plenty of things flying around about it. The world isn't small enough nor is it big enough to render Apple fan's squeaks inaudible, so while the company ripens in the Cupertino sunshine, the rumours will flow. That's why we've decided to introduce an entirely new iPhone rumour roundup article, encompassing what is likened to be the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Of course, there's no real way to know in all certainty that Apple...

  • Olloclip for iPhone 6 review: the Instagram generation’s must-have accessory

The Olloclip is a clip-on lens for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus presumably for the selfie lover and camera phone photographer. In many ways, it aims to enhance the iPhone's already stellar camera, by giving users more variety and control over the likes of fish-eye effects and macro imaging. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, it's a mixed bag. Receiving and unboxing the Olloclip is a great experience, thanks to its curious multi-part design, quirky covers and the promise it brings. It's essentially a 4-in-1 lens, consisting of a fisheye lens, wide-angle lens and a 10x and 15x macro...

  • BlackBerry Z3 is South Africa’s most appealing phone, according to Phonefinder

Yes, yes, we know. We aren't too kind to BlackBerry over in these here parts. The company has been the mainstay in South Africa's mobile phone race since we came to know the beauty of BBM and the wonder of BIS. Come 2015, and miraculously, even if BlackBerry is on the back burner in other corners of the globe, it's still going strong here in South Africa. That's right. According to Phonefinder -- a mobile phone marketplace tool -- and a new report revealed by Fin24, the BlackBerry Z3 is South Africa's most popular phone. Coming in second is the Samsung...

  • Samsung Galaxy S6 review: rightful leader of the Android army?

In many ways, Apple is the Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the tech world. It’s obnoxious, super rich and delivers on its promises time and time again. It’s about as consistent as an atomic clock, and well, up until now, it hasn’t really been defeated in the smartphone space. So when Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy S6 at a massive MWC 2015 event and claimed that it would dismantle the world’s most prolific smartphone company, many were skeptical. I was one of them, even if I was secretly rooting for the underdog. I’m not about to suggest that Samsung is the Manny...

  • New Disney acoustic tech allows for power-free iPhone accessories

This is pretty cool. The folks at Disney's Research labs have figured out a way to control fine functions on an smartphone using acoustics rather than electrical signals. Partnering up with a team from Carnegie-Mellon, the researchers have developed something they call Acoustruments, which combines ultra-sonic soundwaves with the phone's speaker and microphone slots. This they say, allows them to build "Passive, Acoustically-Driven, Interactive Controls for Handheld Devices." Confused? Don't worry it's not as confusing as it seems (as long as you don't go into massive amounts of detail). Essentially, the iPhone emits a continuous ultra-sonic sound. Using 3D-printed tubes, the Disney and...

  • Samsung Galaxy S6 bendgate and ‘Game of Hyrule’ trailer: the TGIF Video Roundup

Read more: Apple Store trolls, ‘Life Is Strange’ and Twitch defeats Pokemon: the TGIF Video Roundup It has been a brilliantly short week and an extraordinarily long weekend, but that doesn't mean that this work week has been reduced in stress, or suffering at the hands of the mouse, keyboard and the almighty monitor. • Samsung Galaxy S6 will likely feature similar price to iPhone 6

If you are to believe Samsung's European websites then Samsung's premium fusion of class and metal isn't as expensive as we feared it to be. Granted, it's not a mid-range device, but the price should fall nicely alongside its primary competition -- the iPhone 6. MyBroadband recently spotted Samsung Netherlands' price listings of the new flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, and performed a quick Rand to Euro conversion, which would theoretically render pockets between R9000 and R13 000 more less fortunate. When Apple brought the iPhone 6 to South African shores in late 2014, it was touted to retail...

  • iPhone 6S, HTC One M9 and Xperia Z4: 7 phone launches to get excited about in 2015

In 2014, the iPhone 6 was released with massive success, selling an incredible 74-million units since its launch. Other outstanding releases, including the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, garnered plenty of media attention. In 2015, manufacturers are expected to continue releasing one new phone in each size class, so expect some innovative new offerings. Most launches will feature at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, the usual launch event for the big names (apart from Apple) but others will likely feature later in the year, namely Sony's Xperia Z4 and the iPhone 6s. But that's just a sample of...

  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to feature faster RAM, iOS 9

It's January and already the world has its first iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus rumours. The current iPhone range is just over four months old but already this smartphone obsessed planet wants to see their upgrades as soon as possible. The new report, coming from Forbes, suggests that 2GB RAM is par for the "s" models which doubles the temporary storage currently available in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus at present. What's more, it will be LPDDR4 RAM which presents a much broader bandwidth than the current and much cheaper LPDDR3 standard. The phones will allegedly also sport iOS...
