Since the official launch in the US 15 November, Sony’s next-gen console has broken sales records across the globe and is being hailed by gaming critics as being a console built for gamers and inspired by developers. At the beginning of this month, Sony announced that the console has “broke the record” by selling more than 2.1-million PS4 consoles sold since launch. Sony’s next-gen console will be...

  • PS4 first impressions: amazing tech in a handsome package

Everywhere you looked at mega gaming expo rAge this year, PlayStation had a hefty presence. A massive Playstation stand, adorned by the much-loved PS symbols, and filled with excited gamers, contained not only the PS3 and PSVITA, but also the much-anticipated (and as yet unreleased) PS4. Gamers could marvel over the sleek design through a glass display case at the front of the stand (and it is incredibly pretty), but more importantly, they could play on a (limited) number of machines. The queues to get hands-on time were, to put it mildly, insane. And with good reason. Not only were...

In conversation with Polygon today, a Sony spokesperson confirmed that the PlayStation Camera “allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29″. What other “details” Sony’s referring to we don’t know. Playroom is a mode that lets you play around with quirky experimental features using the DualShock 4 and Eye camera. In the video presentation there’s also...

  • Battlefield 4 second screen gaming to be next-gen, PC only

If you’re too lazy to access your Battlefield 4 server or mini map via your console, you can choose to do so on your tablet instead. Though you’ll have to wait a bit. EA’s Battlescreen, the second screen gaming platform, will only be supported by next-gen consoles and PCs that will be “powered by the web”. In a recent interview with Engadget, Battlelog assistant producer Jesper Nielsen mentioned that the whole thing is still an “experiment” and that there’s definitely a learning curve when it comes to second screen gaming. Having said that, imagine tanking around ruined cities or...

  • ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2′ to be next-gen and beyond ‘bigger’

Ubisoft game director Michel Ancel recently spoke about the upcoming sequel to Beyond Good and Evil. The game will still follow the story of photographer-for-hire Jade but will focus more on elements such as emotion and enormity. Ancel has high hopes for the new title and plans for an open-world environment for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. While in the original Jade had a hovercraft and a spaceship to travel around the world and stuff, the sequel will take this element of freedom to the next level. When asked about the scale of his expectations for Beyond Good and...

  • Next-gen console madness from Sony and Microsoft

How many years have we been speculating about the release of Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles? Five years? Ten? How long have the rumours been flying around not only about their specs, but their names? PS4, Orbis, Xbox 720, Infinity, Durango, Loop — we’ve heard them all. Let’s be honest, we really don’t know much about these consoles at all, but we can speculate ’til the cows come home based on bits of information we gleaned while scouring the internet for official press releases. Let us begin with the PS4. Codename: Orbis The Latin name Orbis means “ring” or “circle” and coupled...
