  • LG launches new 4K OLED TV ranges in South Africa

September is clearly the month to launch televisions in South Africa. With Hisense kicking things off earlier this month, it was Korean electronics giant LG that unveiled its new wares at an event in Johannesburg's Cradle of Humankind Thursday. The company announced that four of its new premium 4K OLED TVs will arrive in South Africa, handpicked from its 2016 LG G6 and LG E6 ranges. The screens, which boast some novel innovations and marketing pointers, were used to showcase photography from Tanja and Cory Schmitz, two astro-photographers who look for the skyward light in the darkest of South African towns. And...

  • ULED arrives: Hisense brings new TV tech to South Africa

If you run a quick internet search for ULED technology right now, you'd be hard pressed to find any tangible details. It seems that it's a technology Hisense is massively proud of, but isn't exactly showering consumers with much technical detail. That is, until now. At an event on Tuesday in Johannesburg, the company pulled back the curtains (quite literally) on its new 4K ULED televisions, which were made known earlier this year in Australia. This event also gave Hisense a chance to brief journalists and retailers on its new tech, deliver a new war cry to other established brands, and...

  • LG drops it like a ‘G Flex’: curved phone with ‘self healing’ rear now official

After some leaks, LG has now officially announced its curved smartphone and promises both luxurious form and function. It also has a very curious "self-healing" back that's meant to repair itself against scratches and such over time. The G Flex has a 6" Plastic OLED display with a 1280x720 resolution. Performance-wise, it has 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage accompanied by 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. It's running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and is LTE-capable. With a 3,500 mAh battery LG claims to give you power for longer than 24 hours. LG touts the luxury of form and function as...

  • LG’s curved-screen G Flex smiles for the camera with close-up photos leaked

LG's curved smartphone, the G Flex, has been spotted posing for the camera in Argentina. Back in September, LG announced it will be mass producing OLED flexible displays for smartphones later this year. Well, it seems to be "later this year" already. These photos gathered by Argentinian journalist Federico Ini distributed via Twitter and The Verge give us an indication that the G Flex is the real deal and that we might see it before we see Samsung's so-called Galaxy Round (we may never, as it's a prototype) or say "Jingle Bells". Distintas pantallas, distintas propuestas.... Una de ellas la vemos...

  • LG announces ‘flexible and unbreakable’ OLED panel

LG's making a massive splash this week as it's unveiling a 5-inch flexible OLED panel at the SID Event. This comes together with a handful of other major announcements to be expected at the event. Flexible display technology has been on Gearburn's radar for quite some time now. Yes, this technology would make an awesome party trick. More importantly though, it would become a welcome feature, hopefully replacing our current market of fragile mobile displays. Not only are flexible displays gimmicks companies like to measure egos with at annual tech events-- they're for all intents and purposes (as LG claims)...

  • LG announces 55-inch Curved OLED TV for your IMAX living room

Brace yourself, for today the South Korean electronics giant LG announced it will start taking orders for its Curved OLED TV. It’s called the 55EA9800. Yes, it’s not that catchy as you would have wanted but it’s probably the current Iron Man of all televisions. This groundbreaking 55-inch curved telly begins shipping next month in Korea. It’s a great development and gives LG another leap forward in its tight competition with Samsung, Sony and Sharp. This particular curved OLED TV will set you back a massive US$13 500. Though it might just be worth your while to dream about...

  • Apple’s keen on flexible screens according to deleted job posting

Apple’s sneaky. First it posts this job listing (expertly grabbed by 9to5mac) then it promptly removes it. It seems that Apple is searching for a display specialist to “lead the investigation on flexible displays.” Here’s the recently removed job posting: Everyone (tech lovers) knows about flexible OLED screens. Samsung’s heavily committed to it, and LG’s pushing forward with phones that may ship as early as 2013. But Apple patents from last year backup the recently posted job listing, saying that Apple is looking into not only flexible displays, but tactical feedback via piezoelectric actuators. Let that roll around in your mouth, piezoelectric...

  • iPhone 5 to rock flexible OLED screens [Rumour]

Ever had this heartbreaking moment happen to you? Soon this will be a thing of the past if Samsung has any say in the matter. Remember those tasty and flexible OLED displays Samsung demoed? Turns out that the upcoming iPhone 5 may rock them. Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Kwon Oh-hyun had a few choice words surrounding this life-saving tech: We will be mass producing flexible OLED displays from the latter half of this year as...
