  • Introducing the HTC One (M8): did ‘the best’ just get better?

The unoriginally named new HTC One, or the HTC One (M8) is the company’s best phone since… the old HTC One. Will the M8 draw in new fans? That’s a yes. Can it revive HTC’s flagging fortunes. Probably not. Still, the M8 is the hottest phone we’ve seen in an age and when it comes to South Africa, we’ll snap it up faster than a gold-plated HTC One. So what’s the M8 got in store for us? It’s much slicker and metal-y than before. The M8 is 90% metal, while the older HTC One was 70% – this gives the...

  • HTC shakes magic 8-ball: smartwatch, new HTC One planned for 2014

This is a bit of a stretch, but according to a recent Bloomberg interview with HTC, the firm will soon venture into smartwatch territory. There’s been years of both technological and developmental issues surrounding the watch, says HTC, “Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems. These are customer-centric problems.” Smartwatch’s have had a tough time making any sort of emotional impact with users, never mind most of the devices failing financially. If HTC can create a One Smartwatch with...

  • Gearburn goes hands on with the HTC One

I go gadget crazy, often due to my love for the new and shiny. I even left the shelter of my apartment and flew to another city, just to be one of the first to handle the HTC One. Undoubtedly, it’s one of the most well designed phones I’ve ever seen and consequently, the iPhone 5 finally has a phone which has instantly dated it. Aesthetically, at least. Here’s what I mean: 40 Minutes That’s how long it takes to factory-produce the ultra slick unibody aluminum shell. The 4.7-inch screen is sandwiched on top of the HTC One and becomes the...

  • HTC One review: all hail the king

Samsung and Apple better beware – the HTC One combines stunning design, a supreme screen and explosive power to offer one of the best smartphones around. It’s got a full HD screen crammed into 4.7-inches, which brings a 468ppi – well above what’s needed for the eye to discern, but it does definitely bring sumptuous sharpness throughout the use of the phone. On top of that there’s a CPU and RAM combo that is barely bettered, a more-than-enough 32GB of storage and top-end Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G / 4G connections, all topped off by a completely re-imagined version of HTC Sense....

  • HTC One outed days before official launch

Our ever reliable buddies at Evleaks, a Twitter-based rumour-busting account that is usually spot on, have revealed a picture of the HTC One in black. Before we reveal some specs, here’s what it looks like. It kind of reminds of this, the recently launched BlackBerry Z10. Shameful. Anyway, on to the specs and pricing. For US$300 (64GB internal memory) or US$200 (32GB), users can snap up this very Z10-looking HTC One, which according to HTC’s website is under a week away from launch. Outside of the launch date and an image of the device, all that is known is the 4.7-inch...
