  • Watch: PS3 emulator on PC making dramatic improvements [Update]

Update, 24 July 2017: The developers of the RPCS3 emulator have shown off another high-profile PS3 game running at playable speeds. Yep, Demon's Souls is the latest title to see a big leap in performance, with the developer noting that stability problems have recently been fixed. "Although performance is not optimal even on an i7-6700k the game is fully working and runs stable. Therefore it is considered playable, but perhaps not fully enjoyable," read an excerpt of the video description. Check out the clip below. Original article: The PS3 might just be the Sega Saturn of today's generation when it comes to...

  • Backwards compatibility: 5 consoles that will play your old games

Unlike PCs, backwards compatibility isn't a guarantee when buying a new video game console. Fortunately, there have been quite a few consoles packing the ability to play older games out of the box. We looked at a few of the more prominent examples. PlayStation 2 Easily the most popular example, the PlayStation 2's ability to play PS1 games was a huge feather in its cap back when it launched in 2000/2001. The console's emulation wasn't 100% perfect at launch though, as Final Fantasy Anthology, Fighter Maker, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Jet Moto 2 and about half a dozen other games weren't compatible. Later versions...

  • What was the best next-gen console of 2014?

If you had asked me in January which console would be the best performing of 2014, I might have hedged my bets, but in all honesty I would have been leaning towards the PS4. Sony handled the launch of its new next-gen console a million times better than Microsoft did the Xbox One. In fact Microsoft made so many mistakes and handled the PR so poorly when launching the Xbox One, that I did wonder if they would ever recover, in much the same way that Nintendo's Wii U underperformed in terms of sales. I am absolutely and wholeheartedly pleased to...

  • Sony debuts PlayStation Vue: PS4 and PS3 cloud-based, cable-like service

We thought the Xbox One was meant to this current generation's all-powerful home media box and games console, but it turns out that Sony wants a piece of the non-gaming living room pie too. It today launched its own cloud-based internet streaming service dubbed Vue, which will be taking over TV screens in early 2015. Rumoured for a good while, Sony was always considering bringing more than just gaming content to its consoles, especially since internet-driven content is becoming something of the norm in the States. Will it be available in South Africa however? Sony hasn't said a thing thus far but...
