  • Mi Mix: Leagoo is latest Chinese brand to copy another Chinese brand

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is one of the most innovative smartphones in the past two years, popularising the current wave of high screen/body ratios, for starters. The phone also packs a piezoelectric system for conducting sound (instead of a traditional earpiece for calls), making it stand out even more. The Mi Mix's design caught the attention of numerous Chinese brands earlier this year, with the likes of Bluboo, Doogee and UMI all unabashedly cloning the innovative smartphone. Now, we can add Leagoo to the mix, launching its KIICAA Mix smartphone, as spotted by Gizmochina. Most of the specs are still up in the...

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix cloning continues with Elephone S8

Earlier this week, we reported on three Chinese smartphone brands who were unabashedly cloning the Xiaomi Mi Mix design. Now, we've got another phone to add to the list, in the form of the Elephone S8 (spotted by Gizmochina). Elephone is another brand going under the radar, pushing out well-priced, MediaTek-equipped phones that seem like great value for money. So, pretty much every third tier manufacturer in China then. In any event, the Elephone S8 offers a near-identical design to Xiaomi's innovative phone, featuring a sliver of bezels on three sides, and a prominent chin. Heck, there's a chin-mounted selfie camera as well,...

  • Chinese brands are cloning Xiaomi’s Mi Mix en masse

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is responsible for reigniting the high screen/body ratio trend sweeping the smartphone world. Featuring ever-so-tiny bezels and some innovative hardware solutions, Xiaomi's handset is more proof that Chinese brands have been hitting it out of the park. However, the design has been unabashedly cloned by at least three Chinese manufacturers in the past few months, starting with Doogee, as we reported recently. Doogee Mix Doogee's take has tiny bezels on three sides of the full HD AMOLED screen, as well as a prominent chin -- much like the Mi Mix. You've also got a not-quite-top-end Helio P25 octacore chip, 4GB/6GB RAM,...

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 ‘revealed’ by online retailer

The Xiaomi Mi Mix was one of the coolest phones of 2016, even if the camera was naff by most accounts. So we're quite keen to see whether the Chinese brand is cooking up a sequel. According to a listing on Gearbest, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is indeed coming, with the online retailer publishing a slew of supposed details. These details and the image used could very well be placeholders but, if confirmed, the specs would make for a very beefy smartphone. Gearbest claims the phone will have a Snapdragon 835 processor, a 6.4-inch QHD AMOLED screen, a 19MP main camera and...

  • Doogee Mix is an unabashed Xiaomi Mi Mix clone

For every Xiaomi and Huawei, we have an Elephone and Oukitel. In other words, there are quite a few Chinese brands flying under the global radar. Doogee is one of these manufacturers, but the company is hoping to make a splash with the Doogee Mix handset. It seems to be a blatant rip-off of the Xiaomi Mi Mix though, featuring virtually no bezels on three sides. Hell, even the wallpaper for both devices looks extremely similar. The Mi Mix does have a prominent bottom bezel (housing the fingerprint scanner and selfie camera), and leaked images of the Doogee Mix show this...

  • The chase for thin bezels is lovely, but is it worth it?

The past few months have seen the trend of thin bezels, or a high screen/body ratio, making headlines. Sharp's Aquos Crystal popularised the trend back in 2014, and then we had the Xiaomi Mi Mix, released late last year. The Mi Mix managed to up the ante in an incredible way, delivering super-thin bezels that makes for an astounding design. Even Samsung's rumoured Galaxy S8 and LG's G6 (hands-on) don't quite stack up in terms of design, it could be argued. Xiaomi's smartphone retains some incredibly thin borders on three sides, with the bottom being the only part of the phone...

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2: what to expect from new device?

It hasn't even been six months after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix and we're already hearing rumours about its successor. Gizmochina (via My Drivers) has apparently obtained information related to the Mi Mix 2, with the first detail being a jump in the screen/body ratio to 93% (from 91.3%). In other words, expect those bezels to get even thinner in the face of competition from LG and Samsung. The publication also claims that the Mi Mix 2 will sport a curved AMOLED screen, ostensibly in a bid to hide as much of those bezels as possible. From thinner bezels to a...

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix: this beautiful concept is happening

Xiaomi revealed the rather snazzy Mi Note 2 in China earlier today, but it also had another device up its sleeve in the form of the ridiculous Mi Mix phablet. The Mi Mix is a concept handset made out of ceramic materials, but the Chinese firm has decided to steam ahead and push it into production. "It's real! We've brought our concept phone into production. Introducing the Mi MIX, our largest screen flagship ever. Beautifully crafted with ceramic with industry leading technology," the company wrote on its Facebook page. The Xiaomi Mi Mix might be one of the best looking smartphones of...
