Apple iPhone launch event confirmed for 4 October

Apple has officially announced its iPhone event. The announcement comes care of invitations which teasingly say, “let’s talk iPhone”, sent out for a 4 October conference at its Cupertino base.

Analysts expect Apple to release details on the iPhone 5, launch a cheaper iPhone 4 (known as the iPhone 4S). Exactly what products will be released is unclear, regardless of the speculations.

Apple is also expected to discuss iOS 5, as well as minor updates to its cloud service.

Other reports have mentioned that the Facebook iPad app may finally see the light of day at the Cupertino event.

New Apple CEO Tim Cook will play the most important role at the event, as he is in charge of announcing the new iPhone model, whatever it may be. It remains unclear whether or not an ailing Steve Jobs will be play any part in the event.

Other reports have mentioned that a new update to the iPod line is coming but, as with the rest of the iDevice rumours, these remain in the realm of speculation.

Official launches for the iPhone 4S or 5 could come as early as 14 October, according to people familiar with the matter. The period between launch and actual availability is in line with Apple’s usual product release strategy.

Apple has been hastening the upgrade of its retail stores in the US, possibly to accommodate the new advertising and product placement of the iPhones. This is part of a concentrated effort to maximise exposure for its product, much like its supposed “lost iPhone 5” mystery which appeared to follow the same pattern as the lost iPhone 4 from 2010.

Gadget-lovers of the world wait with a bated breath on Apples announcements. Tune in on 4 October as we bring you the latest news from the Apple event.
