Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20152:26 am

Good morning to all in South Africa and around the world. If you happen to be up at the wee hours of the morning, you’re in for a treat. Bethesda is up first at 4:30am, or around two hours from now, but it seems that already we have a few new games thanks to the company’s not-very-private rehearsals.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20152:29 am

RUMOUR (Bethesda): It seems that the Maryland-based developer spilled the beans on DISHONORED 2, in which co- director of the first Dishonored is in conversation with Raph Colantonio — the game’s other director.

Read more about the gaffe on Kotaku.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20152:35 am

Games announcements we might see from Bethesda today (very speculative, except for Fallout):

– Fallout 4
– Doom
– The Evil Within sequel
– Wolfenstein sequel
– Dishonored 2

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20152:38 am

Of course, it’s all just speculation at this point.

Join us for Bethesda’s very first press conference at E3 in a few hours time. Until then, we’d love to hear what you’re expecting from Bethesda in the comments section below, on our Facebook page or even on Twitter if you fancy shorter statements.

We’ll be back at 4.15am for a mini-build up.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20157:15 am

Good day all. It seems that we were a little overeager this side as the times are all pushed back a day in our schedule (you know how it is converting from BST to SAST on the fly).

Bethesda’s presser will actually take place about 20 hours from now, 15 June at 4am and not today.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20157:27 am

By the way, here’s that Bethesda gaffe we mentioned earlier that was recorded and uploaded to YouTube practically announcing Dishonored 2. But is it fake?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20157:28 am

ICYMI: By the way, here’s that Bethesda gaffe we mentioned earlier that was recorded and uploaded to YouTube practically announcing Dishonored 2. But is it fake?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20157:42 am

E3 2015 is the Year of the Leak, it seems. Nintendo’s kicking us off with a Super Smash Bros. announcement but thanks to two new videos that made their way onto YouTube today, we have a fair idea of what’s going to be outed.

And it might include something about Ryu (of Street Fighter fame) and Roy (of the Fire Emblem series) making an appearance in the title.

Here’s Roy’s little sequence:

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20157:44 am

A deeper update can be had over at NintendoEverything, so check it out.

And for the record, Ryu looks pretty much at home on the Wii U too.

Microsoft needs a stellar conference too to revive its play in the console wars. The company’s Xbox One sales figure is up through; 81% when comparing this June 2015 to June 2014 according to information gained by VentureBeat. So not all is lost.

Chances are that we’ll see an Oculus Rift/Xbox One combo demo on stage is also likely, after the two company’s shook hands earlier this week to bring VR streaming to the green console.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20158:20 am

Memory lane: There are a fair number of titles we won’t see at E3 2015, but that isn’t any different to previous years.

Wiehahn Diederichs had a chance to round up the titles we missed the most from the 2014 edition.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20153:32 pm

ICYMI: Here’s a rather funny story in light of the more serious E3 2015 news we’ve been seeing today.

Kate Upton — supermodel turned face of mobile game Game of War: Fire Age — might be replaced by Mariah Carey if an TMZ article published this week is to be believed.

The piece reads as follows:

“Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … producers of the mobile game have inked a 7 figure deal with Mariah, who replaces Kate Upton, in which the singer will shoot a 30 second commercial. We’re told the shoot will last 2 days and the guy in charge is the director for “Terminator Genisys.”

We want to know from you: does this actually matter at all?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20153:34 pm

We’re just over an hour away from the first big news from E3 2015 — Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. announcement, which could spell the introduction of Street Fighter’s Ryu and Fire Emblem’s Roy to the game’s roster.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:29 pm

Just under 40 000 people are tuned into Nintendo’s Twitch channel. We’re just over 10 minutes away now.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:42 pm

Here we go! Nintendo gets us underway with a love little Super Smash Bros. montage.

And here’s Masahiro Sakurai, announcing that Roy from Fire Emblem is indeed returning with a bitching sword and a “devastating sword blow” straight out of Fire Emblem.

Nice.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:43 pm

Lucas is also returning from Super Smash Bros. Brawl as well. The characters will cost between US$4 and US$5.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:44 pm

There’s a Megaman X, and an Animal Crossing crossover Super Smash Bros. coming, including a hilarious Splatoon mashup. Virtua Fighter also gets a bow.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:46 pm

There’s a Duck Hunt amiibo coming! Including Mii Fighters. All 51 fighters from Super Smash Bros. will be available as amiibo eventually. The first two mentioned will be released in September 2015.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:47 pm

There are also new stages coming, including ‘Dream Land’ from Kirby. It’s coming to 3DS and Wii U and should be available for US$4.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:49 pm

The Mii Verse stage will also arrive on the Wii U but will be completely free, notes Sakurai.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:49 pm

Soon Wii U gamers will be allowed to post replays of gameplay to YouTube.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:50 pm

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Here comes RYU!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:51 pm

Ryu looks pretty damn cool in Smash Bros. too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:52 pm

Ryu resembles his form in Street Fighter II, and the moves are based on the rapid movement or deep depression of the control buttons, Street Fighter moves are also coming.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:54 pm

Ryu is a combo specialist, notes Sakurai. And yes, Hadouken! is also available and should be available with its original command (which makes it a lot stronger).

The Hurricane kick is also available in the game. And yes, Shoryuken can be activated with one button, but the original sequence will K.O. a character.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:54 pm

Ryu has two final smashes.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:56 pm

Suzaku Castle is another stage coming alongside Ryu, which pits small platforms with a larger, more certain area.

The theme will be available in both consoles and the music theme will change based on the time left in the match (that’s totally new for the game, by the way).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:57 pm

Ryu will be a little more expensive at US$6.

Heihachi is also coming to the game with a Mii U hairstyle and strange face.

Roy and Ryu will be release as amiibo as well!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20154:58 pm

And that’s it folks! Short but sweet as is the case with Nintendo streamed pressers.

Is that everything you could’ve hoped for? Let us know in the comments section below.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20155:05 pm

If you just missed Nintendo’s big Super Smash Bros. announcement, catch the brief 18-minute update below.

(psst: if you love Street Fighter, you’ll want to stay until the end):

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20155:17 pm

The next big announcement will come from YouTube in just over an hour, so stay tuned.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20155:20 pm

We wonder if YouTube can really take on Twitch in the game streaming world. It has the resources, but does it have the cred?

We’ll find out soon enough.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20156:37 pm

We’re having a really bad scheduling day. It seems that the YouTube presser is taking place tomorrow, and not today as previously thought.

Apologies for the gaffe.

What we can look forward to tonight though is the Nintendo World Championships, which will take place a little later at 11.35pm.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20156:43 pm

Spotted on Twitter: In other news, Nintendo America‘s servers are having a bad day too after today’s Super Smash Bros. announcements:

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20159:08 pm

Memory lane: The Nintendo World Championships kick off in about 150 minutes time, but we’re impatient so let’s turn the clock back to 1990, and the company’s first ever NWC event.

Can you name the three games that formed part of the event?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20159:11 pm

How does the NWC work?

Well, there’ll be 16 gamers competing in eight games with the highest score taking home the gold-plated Mario statue.

Two of the games includes The Legend of Zelda on the NES and Splatoon on the Nintendo Wii U.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 14, 20159:18 pm

How does the NWC work?

Two of the games includes The Legend of Zelda on the NES and Splatoon on the Nintendo Wii U.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:30 am

We join the festivities late, but so far we’ve seen Bethesda announce DOOM, which looks incredible.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:31 am

The game will be released in Spring 2016, coming to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:31 am

DOOM Snap Map now supports cross-platform mods, like a little social networks for mods. It’s pretty damn cool.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:32 am

It will supported by Bethesda.net — the company’s new backend networking platform.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:32 am

And now, here comes Battle Cry.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:36 am

And finally, Dishonored 2. (It’s official after all!)

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:37 am

The poor Arkane Studios chaps look extremely nervous, but the trailer looks pretty damn great.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:41 am

You can play as Emily in this game. Yep, another female lead character folks! The game looks extremely fast paced too, and will be available for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

There’s no release date yet.

Dishonored Definitive Edition is also coming — a graphically enhanced version of the game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:42 am

Tamriel Unlimited’s getting a few new goodies too, including new environments.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:44 am

Here comes The Elder Scrolls Legends — it’s an online card game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:49 am

And finally, the main event one would say — Fallout 4.

Todd Howard — head of Bethesda Game Studios — is on stage now, speaking of the importance of games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:50 am

The company allegedly began designing Fallout 4 directly after Fallout 3, notes Howard.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:52 am

Howard’s taking us through the extensive design work that goes into the Fallout games, and it’s ridiculous just how much detail’s in these things.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:54 am

“One of the great things about Fallout is the world that existed before,” notes Howard.

That’s where the game begins.

Hilariously, you create the character in front of the mirror just selecting an area of the face and sculpting. And yes, you can play as a female too.

It’s beautifully dynamic.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:55 am

To be fair, the game doesn’t look all that great yet, but remember, it’s still a while away.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:57 am

There’s no story detail tonight folks, but you emerge 200 years later as the sole survivor of Vault 111.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:58 am

“Player freedom remains our absolute number one goal,” notes Howard, speaking about the game’s enormous map.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:58 am

Oh, and by the way, the world looks a lot better after the fallout (which is all sorts of iconic).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:00 am

You can give the dog commands, pointing and clicking on a part of the environment. It’s wholly contextual.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:01 am

Good grief, these mole rats look damn terrifying.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:02 am

And look, for those wanting to compare this game to The Witcher… don’t. Think of it as a more beautiful version of GTA with that usual Fallout flair we’ve come to love.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:03 am

It does seem that Bethesda will be using all the console grunt, but will also stretch the likes of GTXes and R9s alike.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:05 am

The game’s stats system has been given a really great system that uses an oversized smartwatch (not really), and you can play Donkey Kong on the thing if you fancy.

And yes, there’s a real Pip Boy coming with the game’s Collector’s Edition.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:05 am

It’s a second screen experience, and hell, you can put your phone in it (it comes with an app and uses the WiFi).
“It’s the best f**king one,” notes Howard on second screen experiences.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:06 am

iOS and Android apps will be available for those who don’t get the real Pip, and it will come out when the game comes out.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:06 am

Here comes a new mobile game….

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:08 am

Fallout Shelter is the new game for iOS. Hilariously, it’s the gamer building and maintaining his or her own vault.

Each dweller has full stats, items, weapons, etc.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:10 am

It seems like a great way to spend a four hour flight.

The game will be totally free, there’s no internet requirement.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:10 am

Howard notes that it’s coming out on the Apple App Store tonight. (There’s no news about any Android support).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:12 am

And here’s some more Fallout 4 news.

Bethesda’s really gunning this game hard, and I suppose it should.

Your character can rebuild while playing — scrap can turn into houses if you’re like Ty Pennington. It’s a damn awesome feature.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:13 am

I mean, dammnit! You can construct your own power grid. Which also means you can build some kickass defence systems.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:14 am

It’s totally optional, notes Howard.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:14 am

For the record, over 450 000 people are watching this broadcast right now.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:15 am

And yes, in-game modding using random items within the game also features in this dynamic world.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:15 am

Eat your heart out Dying Light.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:16 am

This essentially means that you can modify your weapons extensively, and your own power armour.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:17 am

The combat can be played in first, third or stalled time.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:18 am

Dare I say it… Bethesda’s billing this game as better than Fallout 3, but is that actually possible?

Let us know in the comments.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:19 am

Yes it is. Especially when you can now kill things using teddy bears.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:20 am

“Your love and support has pushed us to make this Fallout our best work,” Howard thanks the fans.

Fallout 4 is coming out 10 November 2015.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:22 am

Goodness, now there’s the first big news from E3 2015. And it’s a shame that Dishonored 2 wasn’t given more showtime, because that game also looks like it could be brilliant.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:23 am

Bethesda’s giving the crowd from free figurines.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20155:25 am

And that’s it for now!
We’d definitely say Bethesda’s first ever E3 showcase was a massive success! Stick around on Twitch to watch the post-show. But that’s all for us for now.

Stay tuned to Gearburn for more in-depth analysis. It has been a pleasure keeping you company tonight, and before you go let us know what you thought about tonight’s announcements.

Happy or unsatisfied?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20158:56 am

Just waking up South Africa? You missed one immense E3 presentation by Bethesda, but luckily you can catch the full rebroadcast below.

Sit back and enjoy two hours of game trailers and announcements.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:25 am

ICYMI: Bethesda goes mobile with ‘The Elder Scrolls Legends’ and ‘Fallout Shelter’

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:26 pm

Good day again all! In about two hours time, we’ll hear from Microsoft’s head honchos about the Xbox division’s latest plans, including possible peaks into this and next year’s Xbox One exclusives, new hardware demos and some snarky jokes from the likes of Phil Spenser and hopefully Larry Hyrb.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:28 pm

Memory lane: Thanks to IGN, the take a look back at Microsoft’s E3 2014 announcement (if you really don’t fancy waiting):

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:29 pm

The real question today still remains: will be get a live Oculus Rift / Xbox One demo? Is there more to the hardware puzzle that meets the eye? And will we see deeper gameplay videos from the likes of Quantum Break?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:34 pm

Windows 10 could also make an appearance today, with DirectX 12 leading that charge.

My, we’re giddy thinking about the possible announcements. Could this be the year that Microsoft finally gets one over on Sony?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:38 pm

ICYMI: Bethesda has been seriously busy this weekend. Here’s a recap of the company’s two new mobile games jumping off the success of its two major franchises.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:45 pm

Spotted on Twitter: Larry Hyrb’s currently hosting a little backroom tour of E3 right now.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20154:52 pm

Before we hear from the folks at Microsoft though, a few chaps over at YouTube have a few things to say.

We’re just over an hour away from that presser, which will be live on YouTube (naturally).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:04 pm

Seems like YouTube at E3 is a 12-hour affair, which is just brilliant. Seems like the company really wants to cover the entire breadth of the gaming announcements today.

Tune in to YouTube’s live stream above.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:05 pm

Nice to see YouTube doing this though. It definitely plugs into their YouTube Gaming project.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:12 pm

A big kudos to YouTube on the 12-hour channel!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:12 pm

Oooo! The Mad Max video game. And it’s an original story. I’m going to need this.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:12 pm

The Mad Max story trailer is currently airing on YouTube at E3.

We’re just over 15 minutes away from Microsoft’s big E3 presser too.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:13 pm

Oh wait – it looks like an adaptation :/

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:14 pm

Remember kids: say no to pre-orders.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:16 pm

Haha! Couldn’t agree with Graham more on that point.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:18 pm

Harvey Smith from Arkane currently speaking about Dishonored 2, which looks a right treat. You can choose Corvo or Emily, and play as one of the other.

It seems that a dual gendered lead is the gaming norm going forward if we look at Fallout 4 and Assassins Creed: Syndicate, which we thoroughly approve.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:25 pm

It’ll be a smart move to bring old game collections to the new consoles. They are titles that almost always sell.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:31 pm

Here we go!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:32 pm

“Will you step, or will you leap,” asks the Xbox opening cinematic.

We’re hoping Microsoft will leap tonight.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:33 pm

For anyone not keen on Twitch’s player you can view it on the YouTube one as well. It’s what I’m doing.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:34 pm

Bonnie Ross’s on stage now, head of 343 Industries.

She’s talking a big game here, including exclusives launching this year. And here comes the new Halo.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:35 pm

*Fangirl scream* Nathan Fillion!!!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:37 pm

We’re getting some gameplay from Halo 5: Guardians, and well, it looks a lot slower than most Halo games.

Until Master Chief (that bastard) launches grenades towards your head from an enemy ship.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:40 pm

It’s easily the best looking Halo game in the series, but well, same old Halo gameplay it seems. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:40 pm

My internet connection just came to a crawl.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:41 pm

Here’s Josh Holmes on the game’s mechanics. Master Chief vs. Spartan Locke is the name of the game. There’s a bigger emphasis on multiplayer too…

Holmes is calling it “War Zone.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:41 pm

Haha, Halo will do that to the best connection it seems!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:44 pm

Desolate looks interesting, even if it’s a pre-rendered trailer thus far.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:45 pm

Recore huh? Now that looks like a beautiful mixture of Titanfall and Borderlands.

And here’s Phil Spenser. The man.

He notes that the game is the latest exclusive on the platform.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:46 pm

Recore huh? Now that looks like a beautiful mixture of Titanfall and Borderlands.

And here’s Phil Spencer. The man.

He notes that the game is the latest exclusive on the platform.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:46 pm

He kinda looks like a giant vertically challenged person.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:47 pm

“The greatest games line up in Xbox history,” comments Spencer on the next sequence of games arriving on the platform.

I think it’s that strange platform, Graham?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:47 pm

OMG! XBOX ONE BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY IS HERE!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:47 pm

I called it! I damn called it!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:49 pm

That’s absolutely huge. Now there’s finally a unique selling point for those wanting to leap into the next-gen of consoles.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:49 pm

It’s available for Xbox Preview members, but it will be here before the Holiday season for common folk.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:49 pm

Now things are getting damn serious! I wonder if my digital games will be compatbile

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:51 pm

Is the console wars back on, Graham?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:51 pm

Ooooo a new Xbox One Elite controller. Sexy!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:52 pm

I think it is, Andy. I think it is.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:52 pm

Bethesda’s Todd Howard is back. We can never get enough of this man either.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:54 pm

I’m really growing fond of Cotsworth, the charismatic robot from Fallout 4.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:55 pm

OMG. Fallout 4’s getting a “laser musket.” And yes, it’s about as awesome as it sounds.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:56 pm

POWER ARMOR!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:57 pm

We’re getting a deeper perspective of Fallout 4 here. Bethesda didn’t show as much at its conference earlier today.

Note this game is coming to the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:58 pm

You know, the backward compatibility means that you could possibly play Fallout 3 on Xbox One!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:58 pm

Btw, mods created on PC can be transferred to Xbox One. Nice!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20156:58 pm

And here’s Peter Moore, CEO of EA.

Good grief. Microsoft’s killing it today.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20156:58 pm

This is fan-damn-tastic!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:00 pm

For EA Access, you’ll get early access for US$5 a month including the likes of the upcoming Need For Speed and Madden NFL 16.

Titanfall‘s arriving to the EA Vault too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:00 pm

This just turned into an EA press conference. Hmm…

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:01 pm

Oooo @ Dragon Age!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:02 pm

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is coming to the Xbox One. Much LOL.

“Arrives next spring,” notes Moore. And we get a World Premiere trailer too.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:02 pm

I still need to play Warfare. Would prefer a proper new game TBH.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:04 pm

ICYMI: Here’s that Xbox Elite controller Spencer announced earlier.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:04 pm

Forza Motorsport 6 announces that the Ford GT is back. If you’re a racing fan, that’ll send tingles down your spine.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:05 pm

I have no idea what’s going on here. Something about cars and stuff.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:06 pm

Henry Ford III and Dan Greenawalt, Forza’s creative director on stage now.

And yes, this just turned into a Ford press conference.

But good grief, Forza Motorsport 6 looks quite impressive.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:07 pm

Quite possibly the one game that’ll make my buy the Xbox One right here. Not for the Ford GT though, for the sheer brilliance of real world physics this game has to offer.

It’s out 15 September, btw.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:07 pm

And moving swiftly along, there’s something from Bandai Namco coming…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:09 pm

Spotted on Twitter: He’s got a point.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:09 pm

And here’s Dark Souls III.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:10 pm

And here’s Tom Clancy’s The Division World Premier trailer.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:13 pm

Here’s Ubisoft USA president, Laurent Detoc to speak a little bit more about Tom Clancy, cracking funnies in his swanky French accent.

Xbox One will be getting an exclusive beta of the game this December.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:14 pm

Sony must be very, very annoyed right now. Considering the number of high profile industry leaders Microsoft managed to attract, and the fact that it was first to announce backward compatibility…

The console war is well and truly back on it seems.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:15 pm

ICYMI: Here’s the Forza Motorsport 6 trailer by the way.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:16 pm

I now cannot wait for the Sony conference. Time to load up on all of the Monster to stay awake!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:17 pm

Here’s a beautiful Windows 10 and Xbox One exclusive dubbed Gigantic. It’ll be free to play across those two platforms with the beta launching in August 2015.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:18 pm

And here’s ID@Xbox director Chris Charla.

He’s talking about smaller developers’ success stories on the platform.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:21 pm

So much awesome from these indie titles.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:22 pm

Games like Tacoma and Ashen look to exhibit some real soul.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:23 pm

It’s nice that Microsoft’s giving some stage time to smaller dev studios. Kudos to the company thus far.

And people said that Fallout 4 was the highlight of E3 2015. Clearly, things haven’t even begun yet.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:24 pm

TRAILER: Here’s the ID@Xbox montage for those who appreciate indie games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:27 pm

Xbox Game Preview is a new feature here as well, which allows gamers to sample still-in-development games to the console.

There’s a free trial system as well.

The Long Dark, Sheltered, Elite:Dangerous and Day Z are all coming to the preview. The two bolded games will be available “later today.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:28 pm

Here comes Dean Hall, Day Z creator to speak about his new IP for PC and Xbox One.

“The chance to be a pioneer in a harsh universe,” speaks Hall about his game that “isn’t a game.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:28 pm

It’s called ION.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:30 pm

Brian Horton’s on stage now from Crystal Dynamics for Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:30 pm

I’m going to need Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:31 pm

It’s a great looking game. Seriously atmospheric compared to previous Croft games that predominantly focused on Lara’s body more than the actual story.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:32 pm

Good grief. Lara is probably a better mountain climber than Nathan Drake. (trolololol)….

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:33 pm

Rise of the Tomb Raider is another game on my must-have list.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:34 pm

That must-have list is growing by the second with this presser!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:36 pm

It’s a pity that this is an Xbox One exclusive. I’d love to see the graphics pushed by the PC.

Nevertheless, it’s available in the 2015 Holiday season. You can preorder the game now.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:38 pm

Yup, gonna need that Rare disc as well.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:38 pm

There’s a new exclusive from Rare as well, coming alongside the Rare classic collection.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:41 pm

Oooh… Rare has made a pirate game dubbed Sea of Thieves, exclusive to Xbox One.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:41 pm

And now an Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive…

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:43 pm

Fable Legends. Meh.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:44 pm

It’s Fable Legends.

And here comes a new relationship with VALVE VR.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:44 pm

The Xbox One controller will be included with every Oculus Rift at launch. Xbox One will be playable on the Rift via Windows 10.

HUGE HUGE HUGE play by Microsoft here.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:45 pm

HoloLens gets a mention here too.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:46 pm

HoloLens uses augmented reality, not holograms. Damn it, MS.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:46 pm

And here’s Lydia Winters — Monjang brand director — to talk about Minecraft on the VR stage.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:48 pm

This HoloLens demo is absolutely amazing. Honestly. This is incredible technology.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:49 pm

This version of Minecraft uses a mixture of voice commands and the HoloLens’ virtual physical controls.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:49 pm

DID MICROSOFT JUST WIN E3?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:51 pm

Gears of War!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:52 pm

Here’s Rod Ferguson, and Gears of War Ultimate Edition. The one week public beta for Xbox One debuts today too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:52 pm

And here’s another World Premiere exclusive. Ferguson has a controller in his hands….

This should be good.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:54 pm

POLL: Has Microsoft just reentered the console war? Vote in our poll here.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:55 pm

I voted 🙂

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:56 pm

My stream is struggling again. This makes things very difficult.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20157:58 pm

Phil Spencer’s back. Things must be drawing to a close…

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20157:59 pm

This has been so exciting, and that’s not just the Monster talking, either!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20158:02 pm

No mention of Kinect…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20158:04 pm

And that’s all she wrote! What an amazing presser from the green team there. We’ve seen games covering the length and breadth of genres, from small indie studios to giants like 343.

It’s a good year to be an Xbox fan it seems, and now with backward compatibility making an appearance, we could see sales of the console finally rival that of it’s Japanese competitor.

So, the question remains: What does Sony have in store a little later today?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20158:05 pm

Sony needs to get in gear with backwards compatability. If they don’t announce it now, they have 6 months to get it done.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20158:10 pm

Agreed. I’m not sure if the PlayStation 4 can keep its stellar sales performance up if it doesn’t boast backward comp. It can’t make it on grunt alone, and it’s line up of exclusives have been arguably weaker this year too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20158:24 pm

So, with the Sony presser live at 3am tomorrow morning in South Africa, are you going to stay up with us to see the company’s response?

We definitely hope you are!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20158:27 pm

I’ll do my best to be up. Will be very upset if I miss it!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20158:30 pm

Memory lane: If you’re wondering what to expect tonight from Sony (after EA and Ubisoft have their say), have a look at last year’s presser which was definitely a success for the Japanese gaming giant.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:32 pm

ICYMI: We recap the nine most exciting exclusives to feature on Xbox One and Windows 10 systems in the coming months.

And if you’re a PlayStation 4 owner, feel free to disagree with us profusely in the comments section.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:33 pm

We’re just under half an hour from Electronic Arts‘ big announcements. Yeah, and we’re so so so so excited to see FIFA 16.

(We hope that’s not all Moore and co. has to offer).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:56 pm

We’re back folks! Just over 55 000 viewers are tuned into Electronic Arts‘ Twitch page. You can, of course, watch the entire briefing above in our embedded video section.

We’re just under five minutes away.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 20159:57 pm

I think Star Wars will be a great show-off here. I’m also expecting a mobile app or two.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:59 pm

Definitely. And how can we forget EA’s usual line up of sports games as well.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 20159:59 pm

The announcer signals the one minute warning!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:00 pm

EA SPORTS! It’s a refresh! I mean… it’s in the game!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:01 pm

Lol. Here we go again folks!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:03 pm

It’s Mass Effect Andromeda time! EA’s not waiting any time here. Andrew Wilson, EA CEO, takes to the stage.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:03 pm

Off to a good start, EA.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:04 pm

“The passion for play is what inspires us to get up in the morning,” notes Wilson on gaming.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:04 pm

“We’ve got more than a dozen new experiences to share.”

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:06 pm

I need to catch up on the Mass Effect games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:06 pm

Here we go, here’s the return of Need For Speed. Graham, you watching this one?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:08 pm

It seems that EA is melding all previous NFS experiences to the new Need For Speed game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:08 pm

The open world is twice the size of NFS: Rivals. Booyah. This is Marcus Nilsson speaking by the way.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:10 pm

I hope this is akin to the original Most Wanted!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:11 pm

It’s arriving 3 November 2015!

November’s going to be a bumper month for big game releases. By the way, these facial animations are absolutely amazing in this game, never mind the cars themselves!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:13 pm

My it’s a slippery one to control. There’s some new drift dynamics, and thanks to the extensive customisation controls, you can select distinct parts from racing brands to improve handling or street cred.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:14 pm

And in case you’re wondering — it’s definitely the most beautiful NFS we’ve seen so far.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:15 pm

And now here’s Jeff Hickman from BioWare introducing some more Star Wars: The Old Republic story.

Knights of the Fallen Empire DLC is coming 27 October.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:16 pm

Can’t we rather have a new single-player game?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:18 pm

Patrick Sonderlund, EVP of EA Studios, is on stage now after that Star Wars announcement.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:19 pm

And here comes two new original IPs.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:20 pm

One of them is called Unravel boasting the cutest little red yarn animal. Martin Sahlin, the games creative director, is on stage now.

This game comes from a tiny 14-person studio.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:21 pm

“It was born out of the need to make something more personal, something close to the heart,” notes Sahlin.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:22 pm

This is one remarkable story. No, seriously. Sahlin built Yarny (the game’s protagonist) from wire and red yarn, quite literally.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:23 pm

And now for a gameplay trailer.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:24 pm

It plays a lot like Ori and the Blind Forest actually, except the player can use yarn to scale wide gaps between platforms, etc.

It’s completely physics based, so it’s a really smooth, natural game.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:26 pm

Now THAT’s how you make a Spider-Man game!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:26 pm

As spotted in Microsoft’s presser, here’s Plants vs. Zombies: GW2 again. We get a live game play demo though!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:28 pm

TRAILER: Here’s our first look at Unravel.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:29 pm

I need to own an Unravel doll.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:30 pm

Plants vs. Zombies: GW 2 seems to boast a few new zombie classes too, including a sniper and melee class.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:32 pm

Looks like Plants vs. Zombies: GW 2 will be a more well-rounded game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:33 pm

Agreed! it looks really fun actually. Imagine Splatoon combined with Sunset Overdrive and you get the picture.

Original Plants vs. Zombie players can transfer characters from original game to new game. The game will launch in spring 2016.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:35 pm

Hmm… compared to Microsoft’s presentation, EA’s is really, really dreary. Disappointingly so.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:36 pm

Cool, NHL 16 is here.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:37 pm

There’s the new Frostbite engine powering Rory McIlroy Golf too, which actually looks fairly interesting… if you’re into that kind of thing of course.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:38 pm

There are new FIFA and NHL modes, as well as a Madden training mode.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:40 pm

There’s a pretty awesome NBA Live 2016 feature that allows gamers to scan your face into the game, and it’s damn accurate.

It’s called GameFace HD.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:42 pm

EA’s definitely winning the “Most Dull Presser of the Expo” award at the moment.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:43 pm

NBA Live 16 does look like an epic game, with a hell of a lot of work going on behind the scenes, capturing player movement and dynamics. Players look incredibly life-like too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:44 pm

Here comes an EA Mobile announcement…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:45 pm

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is coming to mobile, announces EA’s Samantha Ryan.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:46 pm

And here’s a Minions-based builder game called Minions’ Paradise.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:51 pm

And Pele, you know, the legendary Brazilian footballer, is here too.

It’s definitely the highlight of EA’s presser, and that is saying a hell of a lot.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:55 pm

It’s turned into Monday Night Football, guys.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:57 pm

Here’s some actual FIFA 16 news now.

(By the way, I totally love Pele).

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201510:57 pm

I wonder if you’ll be able to bribe countries and accept bribes in this version?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201510:59 pm

Haha!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:00 pm

EA finally includes female international teams in FIFA 16. It’s about time.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:01 pm

TRAILER: Here’s the FIFA 16 trailer you’ve been waiting for.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:02 pm

Sara Jansson is on stage now, with Mirror’s Edge news.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:03 pm

The new title: Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. Here’s Faith’s heroine story. And yes, Faith is my heroine too.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:04 pm

I still need to finish the first one. It’s looking good!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:06 pm

It’ll release 23 February 2016.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:07 pm

And this presser drags on… to Madden NFL 16.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:11 pm

The thing about Arsenal is, they always try and walk it in!”

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:16 pm

Now it’s time for some Star Wars Battlefront goodness.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:16 pm

DICE have been putting a lot of work into this new title.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:17 pm

DICE is recreating all of the props and locations from the original trilogy.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:17 pm

“When you fly in an X-Wing, it’s a real X-Wing.”

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:19 pm

Time for gameplay. It’s a mode called Walker Assault, which is based on the opening scenes of The Empire Strikes Back.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:19 pm

This footage is captured on a PS4.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:20 pm

We’re getting so many tingles from this footage. It’s gorgeous!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:21 pm

AT-AT!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:21 pm

Yup, a standard pistol won’t take down an AT-AT, but a rocket launcher will.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:22 pm

You’ll be able to order orbital strikes.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:23 pm

Looking forward to aerial battles in TIE Fighters and X-Wings!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:23 pm

The AT-AT looks incredibly menacing.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:24 pm

This definitely makes up for the terribly dreary press conference.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:24 pm

And here comes Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:24 pm

And the crowd goes wild. EA knew this would be the highlight of the event.

It’s coming 17 November of this year.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:25 pm

Thanks for joining us for the EA conference. Next up is Ubisoft.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:28 pm

Let’s hope Ubisoft is a bit more lively. Good grief.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:40 pm

Well, we’re not too sure what to say about EA’s underwhelming presser, but we’re definitely keen to see some more Assassins Creed: Syndicate gameplay footage.

Ubisoft’s presser is just over 20 minutes away.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:41 pm

TRAILER: Here’s the Star Wars Battlefront gameplay trailer (along with all the other announcements from EA today) — or five minutes of pure fanboy fantasy.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 15, 201511:57 pm

Sooo…. we’re under four minutes away from our third big presser of the day.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 15, 201511:57 pm

It’s almost time for the Ubisoft conference!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:02 am

Is this a new South Park game, Ubisoft? My oh my! COON AND FRIENDS!

South Park: The Fractured but Whole kicks us off.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:03 am

Aisha Tyler’s today’s host, and here’s Matt Stone and Trey Parker to kick us off.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:03 am

Why did they bring her back? She’s a terrible host at these things.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:05 am

Why do I always mix Trey and Matt’s names? Good grief.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:07 am

Goodness, such a crass start to this conference. Put your kids to sleep, parents.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:08 am

A bit strange for Ubisoft.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:08 am

Here’s Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft — and here he announces right off the bat an new IP in a new genre!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:10 am

This is definitely new from Ubisoft. I mean, it’s thoroughly medieval.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:11 am

It’s called For Honor and it’s an adrenalin melee combat fix for those who love “the art of battle.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:12 am

Ooooh, it’s four on four multiplayer too!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:13 am

I can just smell all that burning money being used to buy console controllers.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:15 am

Combat looks brilliantly authentic, and the kills… goodness. A player’s head was just sent across the battle field.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:15 am

The lucky buggers at Ubisoft’s booth will be able to play the game tomorrow.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:16 am

Could be a good game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:17 am

And here’s some The Crew expansion pack news.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:17 am

The Crew Wild Run is its official title.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:19 am

Dafuq was that?!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:19 am

Trials Fusion Awesome Level Max DLC is coming 14 July 2015, and it’s a freaking awesome. Cats riding unicorns? Sold son.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:20 am

Here’s another Tom Clancy’s The Division appearance. It seems that Microsoft’s stealing everyone’s thunder.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:23 am

The games’ Dark Zone gameplay looks hella fun too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:23 am

HAHA! Wilheim scream detected!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:24 am

Lots of bad in-game chatter.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:25 am

The word “loot” is getting thrown around a lot.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:31 am

Well, Anno is also popping up in this presser.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:32 am

I’m defo looking forward to that one.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:32 am

Anno 2205 is for those who fancy building things in space, and stuff. You know. The beta should be out later today.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:33 am

And here comes Just Dance 2016… nope, no Ass Creed just yet, folks.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:35 am

It seems that Ubisoft couldn’t afford Drake, but got Jason Derulo instead. I’m not sure if that can be considered as “settling.”

We’d all love an Apple-grade budget.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:36 am

I dunno who he is, but he’s bringing down the even faster than Aisha.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:36 am

I don’t understand why game industry companies can just announce games without all this DLC-like crap around it. I don’t want a music performance. Give me in-game trailers!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:37 am

Is this E3, or Eurovision?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:39 am

Just Dance 2016 will be available in October and available for all current-gen console with or without a camera addon.

There’s also a new streaming service that brings music to the console — Just Dance Unlimited. It’s the first “dance on demand” gaming music streaming service. Nifty.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:42 am

And here’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbox Six Siege is here again. Damn Microsoft.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:42 am

Hells yeah. Angela Bassett’s in the house — voice of Six.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:42 am

I feel akward watching this conference.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:43 am

E3 isn’t so much a gaming event anymore, is it?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:44 am

It’s just plain weird.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:45 am

Rainbox Six Siege’s Terrorhunt is back too for them solo gameplay lovers.

Just kidding. What solo play? Terrorhunt is a multiplayer co-op mission mode coming to the game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:48 am

The Ubisoft crowd has nailed this “make awkward remarks during gameplay” thing, perhaps inspired by the initial South Park presentation?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:50 am

All games presented by the French company has been stellar though, in terms of production quality and polish. Although, we’ve all been burnt before.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:50 am

Again, so much awkward.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:52 am

TCRSS: beta arriving 24 September.

We get a “merci” from the crowd.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:54 am

Oooo! Track Mania!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:54 am

Trackmania Turbo‘s on screens now… which is like a strange mixture between Mario Kart, Wreck-It Ralph and Speed Racer.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:55 am

And yes, that’s a GOOD thing. Gameplay is about as quick as a weasel, and the game’s about as bright as summer day.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:57 am

There’s a nifty random track layout system too, which means that there’s always something different for the driver to tackle.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:58 am

OMG this game in VR must be amazing! Ubisoft’s letting lucky attendees to experience that.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:58 am

And finally, here’s Assassins Creed Syndicate!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 201512:58 am

Assassin’s Creed time!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 201512:59 am

I think the entire gaming community is hoping that Ubisoft does a Black Flag with this one and doesn’t Unity it up.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:01 am

It’s a marvellous looking game, but will it look like this on consoles when it’s actually released?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:03 am

It’s the closest thing the world has to a football hooligan game without the football.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:05 am

There’s one more thing… And Yves is back.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20151:06 am

Curious about this.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20151:08 am

Farcry?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:09 am

This couldn’t be a new Far Cry, could it????

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:10 am

OMG! It’s an absolutely enormous game whatever it is… but what is it??

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20151:10 am

Looks like a similar engine. Thinking a multi-player, but probably wrong.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20151:11 am

A new and fantastic-looking Ghost Recon!!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:11 am

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon it is! That’s a mega looking game, goodness!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:13 am

And that’s all folks. Ubisoft will have a little post-conference fun now interviewing the speakers, but that’s pretty much all from them.

Some massive game announcements there, including three new Tom Clancy titles (one that looks like Far Cry), a new South Park title and a medieval combat game For Honor. And of course, we saw a little bit more gameplay from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

All in all, a good presser from Ubisoft, but the big one is still to come!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20151:13 am

In just under two hours, Sony will take to the stage in its bid to somehow out do Microsoft’s mega presser earlier today.

We’ll be covering that particular event live.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20151:17 am

I cannot wait for the Sony event!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:37 am

We’re just over twenty minutes from Sony’s big PlayStation presser. Are you still awake, South Africa?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:49 am

Ten minutes and counting.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20152:54 am

5 minutes to go.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:55 am

BREAKING: DNLA support coming to the PS4, as well as media player.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:56 am

And no, it hasn’t even started yet and that’s a huge announcement.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:57 am

We’re still three minutes away, folks.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20152:57 am

I’m not sure if I’m excited or over-tired. We’ll see!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20152:59 am

It’s just gone 3am in South Africa, and we’re moments away from Sony’s big presser.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:00 am

Here we go!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:01 am

It’s gonna be a tall order outdoing Microsoft, but I’m sure Sony will try its best. Here we go indeed!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:03 am

Shawn Layden is first on stage, welcoming the masses to the conference.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:04 am

“Games are the cultural zeitgeist” — Layden’s got that right.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:06 am

The Last Guardian!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:12 am

Okay, perhaps not my kind of game.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:12 am

That is indeed a feather in Sony’s cap.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:13 am

Here’s a new franchise…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:16 am

Oooh, Ferngully. Just kidding.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:17 am

How is she speaking perfect English if that’s far into the future? Plot hole.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:21 am

Horizon Zero Dawn in the name of tha game, and it’s a post-apocalyptic Ferngully-cum-mechanical dinosaur RPG.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:22 am

Looks like a mechanical Monster Hunter.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:22 am

Oooh… there’s a new Hitman too and he’s balder than ever.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:23 am

There’s a console exclusive beta but only when you preorder the game. Rubbish frankly.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:24 am

And here’s some juicy Street Fighter V details.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:25 am

23 July — release date for the first PS4 only public beta of Street Fighter V.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:25 am

You know, I’m actually really, really bored Sony.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:26 am

And here’s some No Man’s Sky gameplay footage.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:27 am

Now THAT is going to be a good game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:28 am

Erg. Fanboys shriek. NMS is indeed an enormous game though.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:32 am

Looking forward to finally getting my hands on No Man’s Sky.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:35 am

Someone smoked some strong stuff when they thought up this game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:35 am

Dude, this is one of the strangest things I have ever seen.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:36 am

So much WUT

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:37 am

Wait, so is Uncharted 4 going to be the main event in this thing?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:38 am

To be brutally honest, I think Microsoft has won E3 this year. Seriously.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:39 am

Destiny news? Honestly. Who cares?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:41 am

I think people are still playing it. Could be wrong.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:41 am

But at a Sony presser? Where more important IPs should be announced? It just shows how thin Sony’s lineup this year really is.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:42 am

That was The Taken King DLC by the way.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:43 am

Sounded like an Infinity Blade game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:43 am

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate? SERIOUSLY? We JUST NOW saw this from Ubisoft Sony.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:44 am

Well, I suppose at least we’re getting some Evie gameplay.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:44 am

She’s the game’s alternative character and is honestly more bad ass than her brother.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:45 am

Here comes Final Fantasy.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:47 am

World of Final Fantasy will be launched on PS4 and Vita in 2016.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:49 am

ZOMG! Final Fantasy VII remake. So much happy there.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:49 am

And finally… the Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to PS4. So the rumours are true.

Hey Sony, here’s an idea: how about announcing backward compatibility for your console too?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:51 am

ICYMI: Here’s The Last Guardian trailer.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:53 am

Shenmue 3 as well. This is easily the best E3 ever. Comapnies are actually listening to their fans. What has happened to the world?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:53 am

Shenmue III also gets a special mention by PS4 execs, thanks to it’s Kickstarter project.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:54 am

Here’s a game that’s coming next week…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:55 am

Ooooh… is this Batman Arkham Knight we see?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:56 am

Kickstarter has crashed from the Shenmue announcement.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20153:57 am

That’ll teach them to beef up their servers before E3.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20153:59 am

So Final Fantasy VII will be on other platforms as well. I’m thinking Xbox One and Windows 10. Doubt SE would make it just a console exclusive these days.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:01 am

PlayStation Vue. Cool. Another product that doesn’t mean a thing to South Africans.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:03 am

Here’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:04 am

Shenmue 3 requires $2-million funding on Kickstarter. It has $39 000 so far. kck.st/1Tp0X0o

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:09 am

From this announcement, PS4 has 1 killer app, another that needs to be made, FF7 launching first, and now Call of Duty. All good stuff, but I’m thinking they still need more to really beat Microsoft.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:10 am

What I mean is Sony is getting content, but not a lot of OOMPH.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:12 am

Yeah, we’ve only seen two exclusives pretty much.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:14 am

My real excitement from Sony’s conference thus far is Final Fantasy VII’s remake, and it’s not even an exclusive.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:14 am

I thought we’d see more gameplay from Until Dawn, but that hasn’t materialised.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:16 am

Oooh, here’s a new Disney-based Star Wars game duo!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:20 am

Star Wars Battlefront is back again, after its announcement at EA’s presser earlier.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:24 am

Finally, to wrap things up, Uncharted 4 — the company’s flagship.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:26 am

This is going to be one of the console’s most important games in 2016, and that’s saying a lot with the likes of Street Fighter V coming as well.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:27 am

Gameplay looks incredibly smooth for a game so far from its release date as well. Nathan’s movement and facial dynamics is absolutely uncanny.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:27 am

I look forward to Uncharted 4: Drake’s Standing.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:28 am

The bad guys have proper bad-guy aim in this game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:29 am

Dialogue is pretty damn funny actually. Sounds more like a movie than a game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:31 am

This looks like a scene out of Bad Boys 2.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20154:33 am

That’s all folks!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:34 am

That does look really fun actually. We have high hopes for that game. But that’s the end of the presser — rather abrupt I must add.

Hilariously, the Final Fantasy VII remake is the biggest news from a Sony presser in 2015. Uncharted 4 rounded everything off, but this wasn’t as crisp as Microsoft’s.

Well, we’re off to bed!

Tomorrow we’ll hear from Nintendo and Square Enix. Until then, have a good one.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20154:35 am

If you’re in South Africa, thanks for sticking it out with us, and for those in other parts of the world, have a good one!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20155:35 pm

Good day all! And welcome to Day 1 of E3 2015… officially.

Today we’ll see Nintendo, Square Enix, and PCWorld’s pressers respectively.

For now, we’re about 25 minutes away from Nintendo’s.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20155:36 pm

Yesterday we saw some incredible announcements from Microsoft and Bethesda — two companies who really killed it yesterday. Ubisoft’s presser was memorable too, but EA and Sony really struggled to deliver knock-out news.

Will Nintendo also fall short for Redmond’s brilliant display?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20155:38 pm

We hope to hear of a new Nintendo NX tidbits, even if we probably won’t see the console until the end of 2016.

Could it really be powered by Android?

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20155:45 pm

Just nother 15 minutes until the Nintendo Digital Event. Let’s see what’s new and in store for consumers.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20155:53 pm

POLL RECAP: “Is the console war back on after Microsoft announced Xbox One’s backward compatibility?”

A whopping 55% of you think that the PS4 has won already, even after the epic performance from Microsoft last night.

More telling, 4!% of you believe that “Microsoft destroyed Sony.”

Let us know what you think. Cast your vote.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20155:56 pm

POLL RECAP: “Is the console war back on after Microsoft announced Xbox One’s backward compatibility?”

A whopping 55% of you think that the PS4 has won already, even after the epic performance from Microsoft last night.

More telling, 41% of you believe that “Microsoft destroyed Sony.”

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20155:56 pm

Looks like Nintendo will be viewable on the YouTube stream as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBM5nzJ5Bws

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:00 pm

Satoru Iwata in Muppet form. This is going to be weird.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:03 pm

Oooh… here’s a Star Fox world premiere!

After Iwata and co. turned into the characters. In muppet form.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:04 pm

Star Fox Zero is the new title’s full name.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:05 pm

Shigeru Miyamoto’s talking about Star Fox now. He notes he was inspired by games from his childhood.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:06 pm

He notes that he wants people to play Star Fox and feel as though they’re piloting a real plane.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:08 pm

Very cool looking.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:08 pm

I don’t think the two screen Nintendo Wii U system really works with any game, but hell, if there’s any title that would work well on the GamePad, it’s Star Fox.

The controller can be used to aim using the gyro, and gives the gamer the illusion of being within the cockpit.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:09 pm

Miyamoto notes that it’s not a remake… “Zero” is based on the Kanji character the game’s named after.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:10 pm

And here’s Reggis Fils-Aime, Nintendo America head.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:11 pm

Good grief. No Nintendo NX news today. Fils-Aime just shot that one down.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:12 pm

There’s more news on Super Mario Maker though. Fils-Aime notes that it’s coming later this year.

And there are more amiibo coming this year, “and more games for them to inhabit.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:13 pm

SKYLANDERS! Skylanders Superchargers… and there’s two new amiibo coming, “Turbocharged Donkey Kong, and his bad ass vehicle.

Bowser also makes an appearance, alongside his vehicle.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:14 pm

Twisting the base of the amiibo can transform them from little mementos to pretty cool amiibo.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:15 pm

Activision and Nintendo getting into bed here. That’s always a good thing, especially to see the company shaking hands with the bigger publishers.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:15 pm

Frankly, I like Fils-Aime better in puppet form.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:16 pm

The Legend of Zelda Tri Force Heroes is a new 3DS game!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:17 pm

Gameplay is always pretty engaging on the 3DS, and even more so on the newer device, the New 3DS.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:17 pm

It’s a cute little 3D platformer than looks be an AI or genuine multiplayer.

It sound arrive in the northern fall 2015.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:17 pm

Think I’ll need to get myself a New 3DS.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:18 pm

Multiplayer is a big part of the puzzle here. It’s more of a co-op experience than “shut up and take my rupees”.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:19 pm

Ha! And there’s a new Totem Mechanic, which allows you and your friends to go shoulder to feet to shoulder to reach places normally out of reach.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:19 pm

It’s looks very, very Nintendo 64.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:19 pm

My fourth friend is not going to be happy about this.

Joking! I don’t have any.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:20 pm

The voice overs could at least be a little more lively.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:20 pm

Online multiplayer will also be offered, which is something I’ve never enjoyed on 3DS games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:21 pm

This however looks like it could be a great Zelda game to port to smartphones.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:21 pm

Oh… and here’s a 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors (Legends).

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:22 pm

We’re hurtling along here. Already 22 minutes into this presser, and we’ve seen some great announcements, but no blockbusters yet.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:23 pm

Those two Zelda-inspired games mentioned are coming first quarter 2016.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:24 pm

Metroid Prime is here now! And back on the 3DS.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:25 pm

The Metroid game looked interesting.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:25 pm

FIRE EMBLEM FATES now. What a gorgeous creation!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:25 pm

That’s coming in 2016 as well, but no dates given.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:26 pm

SO far it hasn’t been that exciting. Come on, Nintendo. Give us the good stuff!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:27 pm

And here’s more Fire Emblem — “A tale of youth and heroes guided by destiny…”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:27 pm

I hope that last announcement wasn’t the only Zelda news that we’re getting today…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:28 pm

And here’s more Fire Emblem variants — “A tale of youth and heroes guided by destiny…”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:29 pm

Note: Square Enix’s presser begins in just over 30 minutes. It was originally scheduled for 6, but moved an hour later to avoid clashing with Nintendo.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:29 pm

4 December 2015 — Xenoblade Chronicles X!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:30 pm

Nintendo needs to work on their trailer introductions.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:32 pm

Nintendo is really going all out with the Amiibos stuff. You need a small fortune to collect them atll.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:33 pm

These trailers are always just so charming though.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:33 pm

Yoshi’s Woolly’s World is definitely a fun little game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:34 pm

Nintendo nails games using alternative gaming styles, so seeing Unravel last night on EA’s conference was pretty awesome.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:35 pm

It can be seriously difficult too. Swallowing yarn, knitting and bouncing around isn’t easy.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:37 pm

This is really where the Wii U excels though, and we do tend to hate on the console a lot over here. But it’s stellar when it comes to more intuitive and immersive games.

Yoshi gets a dog too, dubbed Poochie. And yes, he’s yarn too.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:37 pm

16 October 2015 the game will arrive.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:38 pm

And here comes Yo-Kai Watch.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:38 pm

Interesting.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:39 pm

Oooo Paper Mario!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:39 pm

What is this madness!? ALL THE MARIOS in one game!?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:40 pm

Mario & Luigi Paper Jam the company’s calling it, which is like Mario from 64 shook hands with Paper Mario. Sounds pretty damn fun actually.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:41 pm

Agreed there!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:41 pm

Mario Tennis Ultra Smash is up next, available in time for the holiday season.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:42 pm

And here’s some Super Mario Maker gameplay, or, design play?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:42 pm

Crazy… Mario designers used to draw Mario’s world on graph paper. How far we’ve come.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:43 pm

Ha! Underwater Goombas!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:44 pm

Costume Mario is a new feature too, which changes Mario’s apperance.

And OMG AN 8-BIT MARIO AMIIBO!!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:44 pm

I need the 8-bit Mario Amiibo!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:46 pm

This is brilliant… such deep history here from Miyamoto. The design of Mario World 1-1 is practically the best gameplay design tutorial available.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:46 pm

Here’s Fils-Aime again.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:48 pm

He’s getting a bit philosophical here, running through the history of all the Mario games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:49 pm

Right. So I’m running off to play some Super Mario Bros. right now.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:51 pm

And that’s all from Nintendo… it seems!
Short but sweet. There’s no Zelda for Wii U news unfortunately, but at least we’ve celebrated Mario’s 30th birthday.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:52 pm

And now, Nintendo Treehouse.

We’re running off to catch Square Enix though. That presser’s just under 8 minutes away!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20156:52 pm

Yup, but of a sparse event there. Here’s hoping the Square Enix one will be better.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20156:54 pm

Stream details: For the Square Enix event:

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:01 pm

Time for some Square Enix goodness, yo!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:05 pm

Hey Square Enix, you’re five minutes late!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:05 pm

Finally. Here we go!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:06 pm

Over 100 000 people are watching this broadcast live on Twitch.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:07 pm

Just Cause 3 kicks us off! And Phil Rogers, SqE CEO at that.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:09 pm

So much excite!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:09 pm

“Longer and stronger support for these games after release,” notes Rogers. JC3 is coming “later this year.”

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:10 pm

Rogers thanks the fans, as is customary.
It’s all very formal for now, unlike Ubisoft’s swearfest.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:11 pm

And here’s some more JC3 information.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:12 pm

I hope this is a new Square Enix we’re seeing.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:12 pm

1 December 2015 is the game’s launch date. Coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:14 pm

The game takes place in the Med, with a 400 sq. mile world. Impressive.

There’s an upgraded grapple hook too. Multiple grapple tethers are also included.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:15 pm

Ha! You can now use these things to slam helicopters into the ground!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:15 pm

Oh, and let’s not forget about the Wingsuit.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:16 pm

The vehicle explosion physics is absolutely astounding.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:17 pm

The game is available to preorder now.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:18 pm

Another great-looking game, Just Cause 3.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:20 pm

Oh wow, and here’s a new PS4 exclusive!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:21 pm

It’s being dev’d by Platinum Games.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:21 pm

“NieR New Project” huh? Hmm… tasty.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:22 pm

Lots of big names attached to the new NieR project.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:24 pm

This is pretty huge PS4 announcement!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:24 pm

There’s no title at all, but the new NieR name will be announced a little later this year.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:24 pm

And finally, we get a glimpse at another exclusive, this time for the Xbox One — The Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:25 pm

Brian Horton’s on stage again, after getting an outing on Microsoft’s stage yesterday.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:27 pm

Good grief. designers are going through all the steps taken to make Lara come to life. It’s amazing. She’s possibly the most life-like character we’ve seen at this year’s E3.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:28 pm

And we thought Geralt had great hair.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:29 pm

Gameplay footage please.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:29 pm

I am so incredibly excited for that game. It’s coming 10 November.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:30 pm

And here comes a few mobile announcements…

THIS YEAR’s E3 TRENDS:

1) Mobile games

2) VR games

3) More female leads in games

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:30 pm

So much mobile. Hey, it’s easy money.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:31 pm

Oooh, a new Lara Croft mobile game — Lara Croft Go.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:32 pm

That does look interesting. Hopefully better than the mobile runner I reviewed.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:33 pm

And that review will be out soon, folks!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:33 pm

And here’s some Kingdom Hearts news.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:35 pm

Mmmmm that Final Fantasy VII.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:35 pm

Goodness, but Final Fantasy VII Remake looks a stunner. And yes, PS4 exclusive, folks.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:36 pm

A timed exclusive, which suits me just fine.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:37 pm

Ah, yes. Timed exclusive indeed. Sigh.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:37 pm

For the record, FF VII is coming to iOS too!

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:37 pm

Kingdom Hearts mobile it seems.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:38 pm

Is E3 2015 the “Year of Mobile”?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:39 pm

Kingdom Hearts Unchained is the new game, a collab with Disney.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:39 pm

It’s the first KH title dedicated to smartphones.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:40 pm

KINGDOM HEARTS 3!

Here comes some footage.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:42 pm

Such a fun series. And it’ll now be on Xbox One as well.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:43 pm

Biggest cheer of the night from the Square Enix faithful.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:46 pm

Hashimoto has another trick up his sleeve, dubbed World of Final Fantasy. We saw this yesterday too.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:46 pm

World of Final Fantasy doesn’t look that interesting.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:47 pm

It’s very, very different. Almost Nintendo-like.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:48 pm

The game seems to be a ploy to attract a wider audience to the franchise.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:51 pm

There’s a new Hitman game, called, Hitman.

8 December will be the game’s digital release date.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20157:51 pm

Who thinks up these names?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:53 pm

Lol.

Finally, here’s the first trailer.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:57 pm

It’ll arrive 8 December, by the way.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20157:58 pm

Final Fantasy XV just got the tiniest five second mention there.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:00 pm

But no relase date 🙁

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:00 pm

Ooo a new Star Ocean game!

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:00 pm

Oooh… StarOcean is a new project too, and looks rather dense.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:00 pm

Final Fantasy and “Release Date” don’t usually go together in a sentence.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:03 pm

StarOcean seems inspired by FF though.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:04 pm

I know, I know, but I can dream.

I still need to finish The Last Hope, but this new one seems to take queues from it.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:05 pm

“JRPGs are nothing but movies, instead of games.” Your parent company – Square Enix – started that with Final Fantasy XIII.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:06 pm

Here comes a new Deus Ex game.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:06 pm

Deus Ex Mankind Divided is the name of the game.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:08 pm

Can we get a Hitman, Assassin’s Creed, and Deus Ex cross-over?

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:09 pm

It’s based on a live story choice dynamic, which sounds like a great idea for a usually senseless genre.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:13 pm

It’s out “early 2016” and will be available on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:15 pm

There’s a new RPG coming from a new studio Tokyo RPG Factory.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:16 pm

It’s called Project Setsuna — planned for a 2016 global release.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:18 pm

We’re drawing very swiftly to a close now…

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:20 pm

All the devs are back on stage being honored for this year’s lineup. And it’s a really diverse one at that.

Andy Walker: Gearburn Editor June 16, 20158:21 pm

And that’s all folks!

No FF XV announcements, but the company’s definitely responsible for some great titles this year.

Graham van der Made: Staff Reporter June 16, 20158:21 pm

Some great announcements there. It was much better than Nintendo’s conference. Thanks for joining us!
