Windows 10 Build 14342 brings Microsoft Edge extensions support

If you happen to be a Windows 10 Insider — a consumer who receives the latest pre-release Windows 10 builds — you’d have received the latest build this week, labelled 14342.

Launched today, the company’s latest batch of operating system code includes a number of new features that give us a glimpse into what we can expect for the OS’s Anniversary Update arriving later this year.

The biggest revelation? Microsoft Edge now support extensions.

It’s a big one, especially considering that it was Edge’s major weakness against the likes of Google’s Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox. But don’t expect a swathe of new extensions to arrive within the next week or so. Currently users can enjoy the likes of Adblock, OneNote Web Clipper, Pinterest’s Pin It, Reddit’s Enhancements suite and Mouse Gestures.

Extensions can also be downloaded directly from the Windows Store.

The browser has also received real time web notification support, which allows sites to ping notifications directly to users desktops via the Action Centre. Users can also swipe backwards to return to the previous page — which is nice for tablet users — as well as a number of cosmetic enhancements.

For the entire list of Windows 10 improvements, known bugs and fixed bugs, have a look at the latest Windows 10 blog post here.
