Gran Turismo Sport gets ‘career’ mode and more in new update

Gran Turismo Sport features a heavy online racing emphasis, but it does have a modicum of single-player content on offer. There are your bog-standard time trials, those VR races, license tests and a track acclimitisation mode. But the one big absentee was a legacy-style career mode of any kind — until now.

Fear not, because the December update will bring a cup mode of sorts.

“Launching as part of our free December update, we’ll be introducing a brand new single player mode called the ‘GT League’. Based on the old ‘GT mode’ of previous titles, players can now look forward to racing through a series of cup competitions from beginner to pro levels, and even partake in endurance races!” reads an excerpt of an emailed release by Polyphony Digital and Sony.

Gran Turismo Sport will introduce a GT League mode, in case you grow tired of online racing

The December update will also bring a dozen new cars to the title, including the Ferrari F40, Ferrari Enzo, Suzuki Swift Sport, Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and Lamborghini Countach LP400.

Gran Turismo Sport is also getting the 1.06 patch on 27 November, bringing three new cars (ISO Rivolta Zagato VGT, Audi R18 and Cobra 427) and better offline functionality for things like Sprayscapes, Livery Editor and Campaign. The developer will also be tweaking various aspects of gameplay as part of the patch.

GT Sport is currently available from local retailers for as cheap as R499 as part of Ster-Kinekor Entertainment’s Black Friday specials.

Buying it for the VR functionality? Well, you should expect it to be rather limited, as you race against one AI car in a two lap sprint.
