Has the FCC revealed Nokia 9 spec sheet?

We may have only seen one HMD flagship this year, in the form of the Nokia 8, but rumours have pointed to the existence of the Nokia 9 as well.

Now, the USA’s FCC regulatory body has let slip a few key details, it would seem. The information comes as a result of HMD filing papers for the device, being spotted by Mobielkopen.net.

According to the papers, the new Nokia-branded phone (named TA-1005 in the filing) is packing a Snapdragon 835 processor (MSM8998), 128GB of storage, a 3250mAh battery, a 12MP+13MP dual camera setup and a 5MP front-facing camera. We also see a 5.5-inch OLED screen making an appearance, being produced by LG.

So we see the same processor as the Nokia 8, more storage, a battery bump (from just over 3000mAh), a much lower selfie resolution (down from 13MP) and a slight reduction in main camera resolution (down from two 13MP shooters). But the other noteworthy change is the move to an OLED screen, which usually translates to deeper blacks and power savings.

The other interesting tidbit is the decision to retain the Snapdragon 835 processor, a very capable flagship chipset which has since seen a successor announced in the form of the Snapdragon 845.

Has Samsung bought up the initial production run of the new chipset? Did HMD want to play it safe with a tried and tested chip? Did the Finnish firm merely want to launch the Nokia 9 as early as possible?

In any event, HMD has enjoyed a successful debut year and now, with momentum firmly on its side, we’re keen to see what 2018 holds for Nokia-branded smartphones.
