Galaxy S9 leaks: camera, horsepower, design confirmed

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is set to make an appearance at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 but, with less than a month to go, we now have a load of key details.

According to serial tipster Evan Blass, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 in the USA and an Exynos 8910 elsewhere. But that’s not surprising, right?

Blass also reports that the vanilla model will pack a single 12MP camera, while the plus-sized variant will offer a dual-camera setup. But the primary cameras on both phones will feature a variable aperture, switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4 — much like the China-only W2018.

Interestingly, the report also reveals the presence of 480fps slow-mo at 720p, being “motion-detected”. This isn’t as slow as the Sony Xperia XZ Premium’s 960fps super slow-motion, but it’s still twice as slow as previous efforts. And here’s hoping we can record for more than 0.1 seconds.

Blass adds that the phones will pack an 8MP selfie camera, stereo speakers, 4GB/64GB for the standard model and 6GB/128GB for the Plus variant.

The MWC launch comes as reports suggest that both LG and Huawei flagships will miss the event.
