Lenovo ThinkPad P1 announced with dizzying spec sheet

Chinese laptop giant Lenovo has this week announced its “thinnest, lightest and sleekest mobile workstation” ever, the ThinkPad P1.

To match that descriptor, the laptop’s specifications sheet is also pretty extensive.

Lenovo’s GM of workstations, Rob Herman, suggests that the ThinkPad P1 was something of a dream machine for the company and those requiring a powerful mobile machine.

“When we set out to create the ThinkPad P1, we knew our challenge was to build a mobile workstation that would carry the legacy of professional power and reliability of our ThinkPad portfolio, but also meet our customer’s need for a thin, light and sleek design,” he notes in a release.

As touchscreens are now in vogue, Lenovo has used a 4K 15 inch panel with touch support.

There’s support for Intel Xeon and Intel Core i9 CPUs of up to 4.6GHz, and ECC memory for intensive workloads. Additionally, Nvidia Quadro GPUs are also offered, including the P1000 and P2000.

There’s an option to shove a 4TB stick of M.2 PCIe storage and 64GB of RAM into the machine too.

The laptop will be available in October in South Africa, and will retail from R27 999.
