Nokia 7.1 arrives in South Africa for R5999

HMD Global’s Nokia 7.1 is now available in South Africa.

It’s the first Nokia device to hit our shores to sport a notch — a design feature that has now become ubiquitous in the smartphone landscape.

As the smaller spiritual successor to last year’s stellar Nokia 7 Plus, the 7.1 packs a 5.84 inch 2280×1080 screen which also supports HDR10.

Internally, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while storage can be increased through the microSD card slot.

At the rear, HMD Global’s employing a dual rear camera with a 12MP sensor (with phase detection autofocus), and a 5MP depth sensor alongside.

Up front there’s an 8MP selfie camera.

Powering the device is a 3060mAh battery, while other niceties include Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 ac support, NFC, a headphone jack, and a rear fingerprint reader.

The phone is available at the time of writing from “Vodacom and selected retailers”, HMD states in a press release.

The phone will cost R5999.

Edit: A previous version of this article erroneously stated that a dual SIM version of the Nokia 7.1 will be heading to South Africa, but only the single SIM version is set to reach our shores, Nokia’s representatives clarified to Gearburn. The error has since been rectified.

What’s this with phone makers following the trend of the notch? They should be innovating ways to make full screens, & incorporate the cameras & sensors somewhere. A sliding camera interface would do it fine.

You can buy a Pocophone for R5000. He is right, it is over priced.
