Oppo’s next flagship will have a mental 10x zoom camera system

News of Oppo’s ambitious 10x lossless zoom first leaked in January, but today, journalists in Barcelona got a taste of it in the flesh.

The company announced in a pre-MWC 2019 conference that its zoom system is ready to be placed on a phone. And that phone could arrive as early as Q2 2019.

The lens system — consisting of three distinct modules — will cover the focal equivalent of 16mm to 160mm.

The primary sensor will feature 48MP. A secondary 16MP sensor will be strapped to a wide-angle 120 degree 16mm lens. And lastly, the third module will be the 160mm telephoto camera, which contains a number of lenses arranged in a horizontal periscope within the phone.

Oppo’s digital renders of this module is pretty incredible, and Oppo also claims that it has solved the camera shake issues you get at distant focal lengths.

It’s not yet clear which smartphone will receive Oppo’s insane camera setup, but it’s likely the device will also sport 5G support, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
