Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 Pro debuts in India with more nut-cracking specs

Xiaomi on Thursday unveiled its upper mid-range challenger in the form of the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

The phone, which looks awfully similar to the Note 7, features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset (instead of the 660 used by the Note 7) that flies as high as 2GHz.

It’s mated to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, or 4GB/64GB depending on the model.

Both however keep their 6.3 inch IPS LCD displays with a 2340×1080 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. That notch remains too which houses a single 13MP snapper.

Around the back, Redmi’s really punting this phone’s camera credentials. There are two sensors. One 48MP Sony-made snapper with f/1.8 aperture handles the heavy lifting, while a 5MP f/2.4 sensor adds depth information.

Other niceties include Gorilla Glass 5 front and back, a microSD card slot in a hybrid SIM setup, Bluetooth 5.0 LE support, a headphone jack and USB-C input.

You’re also looking at a rear mounted fingerprint reader for authentication, a 4000mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0 support, and Android 9.0 Pie running MiUI 10.

Colour wise, Xiaomi’s keeping two super glitzy colours in red and blue as well as black for the discerning smartphone user.

And as for price, you’re looking at a starting price of Rs13 999 in India (which equates to about R2800 in South Africa or $200 in the US). That’s about $50 more than the Redmi Note 7.

The phone will be available in the Asian subcontinent from 6 March.
