  • Milestone: Raspberry Pi hits the 10 million sales mark

The Raspberry Pi has been a revelation in the computing and tinkering space, offering a cheap computer for people around the world. Now, the Raspberry Foundation has announced that they've passed the 10 million units sold mark for the credit card-sized machine. Raspberry Pi founder and Eben Upton explained that they initially expected to sell 10 000 units, if they were lucky. "There was was no expectation that adults would use Raspberry Pi, no expectation of commercial success, and certainly no expectation that four years later we would be manufacturing tens of thousands of units a day in the UK, and exporting Raspberry...

Welcome to Gearburn's Mobile Game Picks of the Week, a weekly series in which Hadlee takes a look at the latest, most entertaining, or time-consuming mobile games on portable screens. We're a tad late with this week's mobile game roundup, but there are some great picks nevertheless. So if you're looking for a distraction or something deeper, we've got you covered. Our favourites this week include the latest Humble Bundle for Android and Disco Dave. Humble Android Bundle 20 (paid - Android) The Humble Bundles are always a great way to get a ton of games at a super cheap price, and the latest Android bundle...

  • This Belkin dongle lets you listen to music while charging the iPhone 7

In case you missed the news, Apple has decided to drop the 3.5mm audio jack on its iPhone 7 range, making for quite a negative reaction (unless you're a die-hard Apple fan or use wireless headphones). One of the more notable downsides is that you can't listen to music and charge your device at the same time. But third-party manufacturer Belkin has stepped up to the plate with a US$40 solution. The company's Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar accessory plugs into your Lightning port, effectively giving you two Lightning jacks. One is for your Lightning-equipped pair of earphones while the other can be used...

  • Sony PS4 Pro launched, with PS4 Slim in tow

Sony finally took the wraps off the PlayStation 4 Neo in New York last night, revealing that it would also be called the PS4 Pro instead. The new console was positioned by Sony's Andrew House as an "evolution" over the vanilla PlayStation 4, offering HDR gaming as well as 4K gaming capabilities. The console will "complement" the PS4 though, rather than replace it. Is the PS4 Pro delivering proper 4K? During the press event, House claimed that they had pretty much "maxed out" 1080p television sets, necessitating the move to 4K. Of course, Sony also makes 4K TVs... Sony said that the new...

  • Apple iPhone 7: the positives and negatives

Apple may have unveiled the iPhone 7 last night, but the rumour mill hit the nail on the head in the lead up to the event. Nevertheless, there are plenty of cool features touted by the latest devices, as well as a few bone-headed decisions made by the Cupertino company. The iPhone 7's green ticks Water resistant design The last few iPhones have all featured some level of water resistance, but Apple has decided to actually implement proper water resistance and advertise the fact. At IP67, the iPhone 7 isn't quite at the IP68 level of the Galaxy S7 or the last few Xperia Z...

Time and official streaming link The Sony event will start at 3pm Eastern Time (9pm SAST) later today, and you can stream the action via Sony's PlayStation Twitch channel, embedded below. You can also watch the live stream on YouTube, which is also embedded below. Alternatively, those wanting to stream from a...

  • Exclusive: newly-launched LG V20 coming to South Africa

LG's innovative V10 smartphone didn't make it to South African shores unfortunately, but the Korean firm has some good news for us regarding the newly announced LG V20. The company announced that the new smartphone will indeed be coming to South African shores. "I can confirm that V20 will be coming to SA," a local LG representative told Gearburn in an emailed response to questions. LG V20 will be officially sold in South Africa, unlike its V10 predecessor The representative also confirmed that they were looking at a rough November launch window for the new handset. Unfortunately, a recommended retail price couldn't be confirmed by LG at the...

  • LG V20 launched with music, video-centric features

The LG V10 was one of last year's best smartphones, offering an innovative secondary display, great video recording functionality and dual front-facing cameras. Otherwise, it was the same fundamental experience as the LG G4 (review). Unfortunately, the phone didn't make it to South African shores. Now, the Korean firm has stepped up with the V20, offering several improvements over the LG G5 (review) and a variety of audio-related features. In the power department, the phone features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset as the G5, as well as 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage (up to 2TB microSD cards). Much like last...

  • How to watch the Apple iPhone 7 launch in South Africa

Apple's iPhone 7 event kicks off later today, where the company is expected to be revealing two models. We've already covered the rumoured specifications, but here's how to follow the event as it happens. Time and streaming link? The event takes place at 10am PDT (7pm SAST), with users being advised to visit Apple's event page for the streaming link. Got an Apple device? Those with Apple devices should be able to stream the iPhone 7 event via Apple Safari, but you'll need an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iOS 7 or later. Got an Apple Mac computer? Then you'll need Safari 6.0.5 on OS X 10.8.5. Luckily, you can...

  • Huawei Nexus device: we told you so (sort of)

The latest news indicates that Huawei is working on a Nexus/Google-designed tablet. But, at the risk of tooting our own horn, we sort of beat them to the punch a few months ago. At the South African launch of the Huawei P9 (review) and P9 Plus in June, we interviewed Charlene Munilal, general manager for Huawei's Consumer Business Group in SA, who confirmed the company was indeed doing a Nexus device. What we didn't know at the time was what kind of device it was. A new Huawei-branded Nexus on the way? We told you so Munilal explained why the Nexus 6P wasn't more widely available in South Africa,...
