  • Microsoft wins social media battle at E3 2017 – study

E3 2017 is pretty much in the bag, as all the major publishers and manufacturers have already dished out their details. We've already looked at who won E3 (both in article form and podcast), but what about the social media war? Analytics firm Brandwatch has tallied the mentions, revealing the big console and video game winners as determined by social media. "This data incorporates mentions from across social media (we track mentions across millions of sites, including public Facebook posts, Instagram, blogs, forums, news sites etc)," Brandwatch explained to Gearburn. And the big winner was Microsoft, claiming 44% of mentions according to...

We have yet again bore witness to another E3, our tiny nerd brains reeling with the immense amount of information swirling around in our minds. As any year, this year’s E3 had its share of memorable moments. We saw the reveal of Bioware's gorgeous new IP Anthem, were treated to an action-packed multiplayer round of Battlefront II, and got a deeper look at Far Cry 5. But as great as these moments were, there were a few others that caught my attention that I will explore in this piece. For those unfortunate few who have not yet heard of E3, here's...

  • Sony explains lack of cross-platform online play

We've seen titles like Minecraft and Rocket League being announced with cross-platform play in recent times. Both titles will be playable across PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, making for a cool, overdue proposition. However, Sony is curiously absent in both instances. So why is this the the case? "It's certainly not a profound philosophical stance we have against this. We've done it in the past. We're always open to conversations with any developer or publisher who wants to talk about it," PlayStation's Jim Ryan told Eurogamer. "Unfortunately it's a commercial discussion between ourselves and other stakeholders, and I'm not going...

Now that the Switch is in millions of hands around the world, what has Nintendo delivered at E3 2017? Here are some of the major highlights. Metroid Prime 4 is coming for Switch The Metroid Prime series is one of gaming's most beloved, delivering a first-person adventure back in 2002 and going from strength to strength since then. • Sony or Microsoft: who won E3 2017?

It's one of our favourite periods of the year, when gaming studios and console manufacturers descend on LA to showcase their new wares at E3. EA, Bethesda and Microsoft held their conferences earlier this week, while Sony followed through a few hours ago (as of writing). So the real question is, who "won" E3 between Microsoft and Sony? What about the Xbox event? The company's fans no doubt wanted Xbox Scorpio details and new exclusive games. Did the firm bring the results then? Well, Project Scorpio certainly had plenty of time in the sun, with a final design, pricing and a release date...

  • E3 2017: Miyamoto, Ubisoft reveal Mario in XCOM clone

We already know about the likes of Far Cry 5, the new Assassin's Creed and The Crew 2. And they predictably made appearances at E3 2017. But Ubisoft has also used E3 to reveal a few brand new titles. Nintendo and Ubisoft team up One of the biggest surprises was Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto on-stage at the event, to present new title Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. • Most popular game at Xbox E3 event wasn’t an exclusive

Assassin's Creed: Origins was the most talked-about game at Microsoft's Xbox event at E3 2017. This is according to data collected by social analytics firm Brandwatch. The company found that 420 000 social media posts were made about the conference in general between 2pm and 3.45pm PT. As for a gender-based breakdown, it found that 79% of authors were male and 21% were female. Brandwatch added that the constant stream of games from the Microsoft event made for quite a challenge. "We searched for mentions of all of the games that had extended trailers or mentions by the speakers (basically, skipping games that...
