The Mate 10 Porsche is very expensive We already obtained MTN's pricing for the two phones and, surprisingly enough, they are cheaper than the recommended retail price. • Mate 10 Pro, Porsche get priced for SA – they aren’t cheap

Huawei has finally revealed pricing for its Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche edition smartphones. And they won't be a bargain by any measure. The Mate 10 Pro is set to have a prepaid price of R17 999, while the Porsche Design variant packs an eye-watering R26 999 price tag. By comparison, MTN's own pricing last week listed the phones at R17 379 and R23 449 respectively. The two phones sport a Kirin 970 chipset with Neural Processing Unit, the latter enabling faster and offline AI tasks. Otherwise, a 4000mAh battery, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and 6GB of RAM are also shared...

  • Next Huawei flagship due for H1 2018, to use Mate 10 silicon [Exclusive]

Huawei's Kirin 970 is one of the more advanced mobile processors right now, owing to the inclusion of an AI chip. The Kirin 970 currently powers the Huawei Mate 10, but history usually tells us that the Mate processor will power the next P-series flagship. For example, the Kirin 950 powered both the Mate 8 and P9, while the Kirin 960 powered both the Mate 9 and P10. So it stands to reason that the P11, or whatever it's called, would be powered by the new chip, right? Now, Zhao Likun, general manager for Huawei South Africa's consumer business group, has...

  • MTN reveals prepaid pricing for Mate 10 Pro, Porsche edition

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Porsche Edition devices are expected to hit South Africa this month, bringing some interesting features to the table. Now, MTN has published its latest catalogue, also revealing its prepaid pricing for the two smartphones. The yellow network revealed a price of R17 379 for the Mate 10 Pro and R23 449 for the Mate 10 Porsche Design variant. Of course, prepaid prices via networks are usually a little steeper than the manufacturer's recommended retail price. So I reckon that the final RRP could be R16 999 and R22 999. Prefer a contract? Well, the phones are going...

  • 6 fascinating smartphone features enabled by AI chips

The past two months have seen both Apple and Huawei launch smartphones, with each device expected to sell by the millions. But beneath the dual camera trickery, cutting-edge biometrics and "courage", we're also seeing the introduction of silicon devoted to artificial intelligence (AI). The Huawei Mate 10 was first out the gate, its Kirin 970 processor featuring a dedicated "Neural Processing Unit" or NPU to speed things up. Meanwhile, Apple's iPhone X packs a screaming A11 processor, which also touts a "Neural Engine". This "engine" is essentially a dual-core chip housed within the image signal processor. So it's all good that these phones are packing...
