  • Nokia Lumia 810 hands on review: we get a hold of the latest Windows 8 phone

Here at MobileCon 2012, we got to put our hands on T-Mobile's exclusive Windows phone, the upcoming Nokia Lumia 810. Unfortunately, holding this handsome new handset was about all we were allowed to do. The smartphone version of the Windows 8 OS is still very hush-hush, and demo units we saw wouldn't even turn on. Still, there was a lot to be gleaned from playing with the dev

  • Nokia’s new mid-range Lumia series, now powered by Windows 8

Nokia will announce a new range of Lumia smartphones: the 800 series. The range has two offerings, the 810 and 820 both scheduled for release later this year. The 810 is currently doing the rounds and sources at The Verge say it will be unveiled at a Nokia event 29 October. The event will also reveal further information on Windows 8 as it makes its way onto both the 800 and 900 series. Early specs show that this version will feature a 4.3-inch display protected by scratch-proof Gorilla Glass. The device is also packing an 8MP Carl Zeiss designed camera...

  • Microsoft’s Hero Phones: Meet the new kids on the block

Well they are finally here and I have to say I’m kind of impressed with the lineup of phones Samsung, Nokia and HTC have brought to the forefront of the Windows Phone battlefield. We all have to admit that the Apple iPhone is currently the phone to beat in sales numbers, which by analysts expect to sell around 10-million units by the end of the month. To put it in perspective, the wildly successful Samsung Galaxy S3 only shipped that many in around two months, and the Lumia shipped 4-million in 3 months. As a Windows Phone user myself, currently...

  • Nokia adds US$99 Asha 308, 309 to the mix

Nokia's finished messing around. After a fairly exciting product launch of its flagship phones, the Lumia 820 and 920, Nokia's now gone and released two baby-smartphones. Let's welcome the Asha 308 and 309 to the party and see what these hardy devices offer outside of the new "fluid swipe" interface. The new Nokia Asha 308, but not like you can tell the difference. Humble hardware These phones are not meant for the usual suspects. These are smartphones for the rest of us. There's the tough but tiny 3-inch screens, a 2MP rear camera and Nokia's Asha Touch UI which is really a...

  • Nokia Lumia 920 — The flagship Windows Phone 8 device appears – is it any good?

Nokia's Lumia 920 is seen by some as a vital phone for the survival of the company – but is it a leading smartphone worthy of Windows Phone 8? We'll get it out the way early on: Nokia was being overly-cautious with the Lumia 920 at its Nokia World press event – we were allowed only brief time to take pictures and were only shown the device being used, rather than play with it...

  • Nokia’s new Lumia 820, 920 embrace a cord-free future

At a Microsoft event scheduled for 5 September, Nokia is planning to unveil its two new Windows 8 Phones, the Lumia 820 and 920. Most excitingly, the Lumia 920 will have wireless charging. This is Nokia's high-end Windows 8 phone, so nothing but the best for these candy-coloured slabs of Finnish delight. Wireless wonder The 32GB, 1.5Ghz CPU-rocking, 4.5-inch HD screen of the Lumia 920 will use an inductive wireless charging method. So drop...

  • Reviewed: Nokia Lumia 900

I had some time with the recently launched Nokia Lumia 900 last weekend. As an avid Windows Phone fan, I’ve been looking forward to using the latest and greatest Nokia. The Lumia 800 was a slight disappointment on launch as it had less features than my HTC HD7 with the stock version of Windows Phone. To be honest I was very surprised to find that the Nokia Lumia 900 came with the latest software out of the box. Microsoft updated all Lumia devices last week to software version 8773 which included things like internet sharing et al. Setting up the...

  • Things we dig: old-school Snake on Nokia’s Lumia

Complete with green screen and everything, Snake is back! Developed by Willem Middelkoop for Nokia's Lumia smartphone range; it can be downloaded from Windows Phone Marketplace. The Lumia touch screen is transformed back to the early 2000s with an image of a 3310 on the screen to play on. For those that grew up in the ‘90s, it’s right in the childhood. Just like with the 3310, you use the 2, 4, 6 and...

  • Nokia PureView sets sights on next-gen Lumias

The PureView 808, last seen merrily snapping 41-megapixel shots, is making its way to next-gen Lumia phones, says Nokia bigwig Chris Webber. "You can expect we'll be bringing PureView technologies to the Windows Phone platform in future Lumia devices." Webber won't reveal when the PureView tech will rocket its way to future Lumia models, but he assures megapixel-hungry fans his company is "absolutely committed" to bring this dazzling image sensor to Windows phones. Let's...

  • Nokia finally does something cool, releases City Lens for Lumia

The beta of the Lumia-only City Lens app is live and bursting to be downloaded. Sure, there was a Symbian version but that OS is older than Bill Gates' pick-up lines. Let's concentrate on the now. Open the app, point it a city and "selected points of interest" appear. Kind of like an augmented reality app, but rubbed in that minimalist Nokia finish. So what's it all about then? The camera viewfinder becomes...
