  • Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact to ditch headphone jack?

Sony's renowned for its decades-long audio credentials, but a new report claims that the company is getting rid of its all-important headphone jack on its upcoming flagship smartphones. According to Swedroid.se (via Xperia Blog), citing an "industry source", both the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will ditch the 3.5mm jack. How Sony will spin this, we don't know, but if it's like any other company, we imagine they'll cite water/dust resistance, battery capacity and/or general space considerations. Otherwise, the publication reports that both devices will have a rear fingerprint scanner (as opposed to the side-mounted scanner of previous devices), a Snapdragon...

  • LG V30 2018 now official, but what kind of AI trickery does it have?

Late last month, we got confirmation from an LG South Africa executive that an upgraded V30 was in the pipeline for Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. Yesterday saw even more information drop out of Korea, in the form of the V30s name, spec info (256GB storage) and AI details. Now, LG has officially announced that it will be bringing "the first of a suite of AI technologies" for its smartphones at MWC -- alongside a 2018 V30. "The new technology will be featured in the 2018 version of the LG V30, LG’s most advanced flagship smartphone to date," the firm wrote in a...

  • Nokia 8 Sirocco set for MWC 2018 – report

We've already seen the Nokia 6 2018 launch in China, packing an updated chipset. But a new report claims that HMD is working on a "Nokia 8 Sirocco" for MWC 2018. According to prominent tech publication My Drivers, the Nokia 8 Sirocco (apparent model number TA-1005) will pack a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM and a 3250mAh battery. However, the website also claims that the device will offer IP67 water resistance and wireless charging, making for a welcome change over the original Nokia 8. If true, this means the new model will probably offer a polycarbonate or glass back. Metal backs...

"We will introduce at MWC for V30... upgraded version (sic)," Kim told press at LG's Innofest event in Cape Town. Kim hinted that the G7 would be a "little bit late". The news comes amid claims that the G7 has gone back to the drawing board. The claim has been dismissed by an LG executive, who...

  • Galaxy S9 gets 25 February launch date, set for MWC

Samsung's Galaxy S9 is a no-brainer obviously, but the question is when? Late last year, we heard that it might make a cameo at CES 2018, but that didn't seem to pan out.
