  • iTunes games now officially available for South Africa… finally

Apple has started rolling out games for iTunes South Africa. Yup, it's about time. As a company spokesperson told MyBroadband yesterday, the roll-out is officially underway. The pricing of most games is also well thought out. Angry Birds, for instance, costs R8.00 via South African iTunes. That's a few rand cheaper than if you got it through the US or UK iTunes. Score! Some users experienced errors when trying to access the "Games" section, although the link seems to be working fine now. Initially certain users weren't directed to the local store when searching for titles on their devices. It will...

  • SA exclusive mobile shooter ‘Fleet of One’ blasts its way onto iOS, Android

Fleet of One, the South African-developed game for iOS and Android is now available for Apple's iDevices and will be "released soon" for Google's mighty mobile OS. Developed by Polymorph, Fleet of One is the hard-as-nails lovechild of Space Invaders and Galaga, two arcade-style shooters with little room for error. Colin Payen, creative director at Polymorph along with Herman Lintvelt, director and founder, built and designed Fleet of One to recreate...

  • Netsurfer Dual Tablet review: thrifty Android goodness

Change is a constant in the gadget world. Devices get larger and thinner, operating system become more user-friendly and our wallets become just a little lighter ever year. It’s the low-cost, high-concept gadgets that pique our interests the most though, like the new Netsurfer Dual Tablet from South African-based FutureMobileTechnology (FMT). For just under R2 000 (US$200), the Dual represents value for money in a lean 7-inch tablet that packs a lot of muscle under its belt. It’s not the fastest tablet ever made, or the best looking device you’ll ever see, but it’s inexpensive, has a decent screen and...

  • FIFA 13: keeping the faith alive

What is it about the FIFA series that keeps its devoted fans coming back year after year?  Maybe it’s the addictive gameplay? Maybe it’s the satisfaction of accomplishing a world-class career? Maybe it’s the gamefication of the online experience? or just maybe, it’s all of the above and more. FIFA 13 launched during a whirlwind midnight opening 27 September. Electronic Arts released sales figures indicating that the game passed one million pre-orders worldwide and that the demo was downloaded 4.6-million times, a dramatic improvement over previous...
